How do you guys feel about changing oil, but not the filter? I currently have a Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter which I’ve read is one of the best you can buy and is designed to run up to 20k before changing (not that I’d ever run it that long).
At one time (Being my favorite), I thought Fram was one of the best out there. Then I read somewhere that it was one of the worst out there. Might be coming from the same people saying 'Coffee is good for you' one year and the next it's not good for you......:disgust: Now I just use Wix. Used them on both my challengers and all my suv's.

I read the same, but apparently the Ultra Synthetic line they make is the exception. Well made and tested to perform exceptionally well.

May be the next best thing since sliced bread but will not run any filter longer than10k tops and all my WIX Extreme Performance filters only go to 7500 tops but my M.O. is to change oil at 5k intervals. easy for me to remember to do at that mileage. Your rig, your call. Kind of like maintenance schedules on your rig. There is normal and extreme maintenance and smart people follow the extreme schedule. If your M.O. is to trade off rigs every few years, then the normal schedule and the 20k on the filter, will be ok.

Not without knowing how loaded the filter is
If I'm that strapped for cash, tbh, I'd rather put cheap oil in and change the filter anyway. Even the best lubricants will do no good if there's particulates floating around. I'll 'shop down' on the oil before I do the filter, to meet a budget.

IF you were short tripping or something and changing oil early, AND used the longer filter (XG 3675), AND the engine was other wise in good condition - no vacuum leaks, good air filter, THEN I probably wouldn't think much about it.

Fram has a wild product line.
I wouldn't touch their low end glued paper filters (regardless of how many people on BITOG preach them) with a 10ft pole. But their ultra synthetics? I'd put them on the same pedestal as Amsoil. Honestly, even above. Has larger flow holes than the amsosil units.
They used to be mesh backed, but the newer ones have changed to a different filter media with no mesh backing. It seems to filter better, but it substitutes the mesh backing for paper backing. I was eeeeee about it, but I've not seen any issues with it to complain about.

In reference to Rotella, a friend got this info.

"I have heard that Rotella T6 should not be run in a gas engine car with a catalytic converter, is this true? Which Rotella oils are ok to run in a gas engine car with a catalytic converter? Thanks"

The reply was this:

"In reference to your query, please see below message from Shell Technical Team.

Thank you.

Hope this helps. For further assistance, please respond back to this email or call our Customer Service hotline and you will be assisted as soon as possible.

Dear Sir,

No Rotella Oils are recommended for use in gasoline vehicles with catalytic converters.

The prevailing wisdom used to be that higher ZDDP levels, a zinc + phosphorous based high pressure anti wear additive, found in diesel oil, would poison the catalytic converter in gasoline engines.

Given that pretty much all modern diesels have cats though... I'm not sure how accurate that is, or ever was....

Okay guys got another question for you. Today I had new OEM Shocks replace all around. Too nice of a ride for me to lift the truck. Anyway I had the oil changed while it was in the shop. I decided to get Mobil 1 5W30. My oil pressure dropped almost 5psi. About 44psi hi and idling 35psi. Any advise. Could the sending unit be malfunctioning...? Open for suggestions.
