I used to call them hard or soft lockers. Hard locker for tough off road use and soft locker for asphalt and soft offroad use. Detroit makes the best IMO.

Give the guys at Yukon Gear a call and learn from them.

Yea, just call Yukon Gear and tell them how you will be driving and they can help you out. There is likely someone local who installs gears and lockers that has heard of them and know of their expertise. They have complete install kits that include everything you will need and can answer all your questions. Other people will have other favorites but IMO it is they that are the best. Here in Oregon there is a lot of 4x4ing and they are well known here.

When I had my rear axle rebuilt, I personally had the Detroit Truetrac installed to replace the G80, and had Yukon axles installed at the same time.

That is what I call a hard locker and will make some ratcheting noises if accel in a hard enough tight turn but you will get used to it as you go along. Best locker in my opinion is the Detroit. Hard to break.
