I live in the hot south so I’ve always had my vehicles tinted since the early ‘80’s even in SoCal (Oceanside/San Diego) while stationed there but usually my cars were out of state registered except while I was back in SoCal (Irvine) in the ‘90’s. I only got a fix it ticket once but I had a friend who was a Marine reservist & a deputy sheriff sign off on it for me. I never got another one even while later being stationed up in the slightly less car centric central Cal area around the Bay area (Oakland/Vacaville).
I had 15% ceramic tint installed just on the front drivers and passenger windows only to match the factory rear glass. It is dark enough during the day with the panoramic roof shade closed but lightens up slightly with the shade is opened and visibility is perfect at night time without any glare from the instrument panel.
1st pic below is with the sun shade closed and the 2nd pic is with the sun shade opened fully.
