Wheel Bearing?

Just before I got to my vacation spot in Myrtle Beach my ABS and traction control lights starting flashing. Sometimes they will stay on for a minute or go off for a minute. The display shows “Service Stability”
The other issues are, I will get reduced engine power and a growling noise from the left front wheel. Also, if I turn the wheel when I’m moving slowly, I get a loud creaking and popping sound and the wheel can be harder to turn.
My guess is the front wheel bearing and possibly a bad traction control module as well. Unfortunately I don’t have my tools and need to find a decent and honest mechanic down here.

Sure sounds like a bad wheel bearing and the speed sensor is probably getting fouled causing your ABS.

For the cost of labor, you could probably buy the tools you need and do it yourself, if you wanted to. Bet you could get the tools you need for around $150. Lowe’s has craftsman tool sets for $100 and there is one in Myrtle Beach.

That thought entered my mind, but this is the first real vacation I’ve taken in 4 years so I’m going to enjoy my time and let somebody else do it.
We have a friend that lives in North Myrtle who just gave me a name of a shop they’ve been using for years so I may give them a shot. I’m guessing to do both sides will probably run me around $1K which is fine with me. Hopefully they use Moog or something of that quality. From what I can tell it looks like an hour labor per side.

Ok, Flash. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the garage, open a beer, get tools, and jack up the truck and get the wheel off.

Dpending on how far you are from home I would only have them do 1 side if necessary and do the other when u get home.

A quick rock auto check: $100-120 -ish for the bearing. FYI.

I’ve used Moog several times and never had a problem. I do agree that Timken is one of the best.

For that $, I'd insist on Timken or youre gonna do them again anyways.
