Im trying to order a wheel speed sensor for my drivers side front. Its jacking up my ABS, i had to pop the fuse out and go without it. Abs kicks in under 5mph. Had a shop verify which sensor it is. Now, i know on the older models its an entire hub assembly that you order the speed sensor with. Is it the same on the newer ones like my 2006 4x2? Because as i search for it, only a harness looking part comes up. Not an entire hub assembly?

I had the same problem with my truck about a year ago. I removed the sensor and cleaned the mounting surface. I haven't had a problem with it since then.

Try cleaning it before buying a new one...

I literally just had this happen yesterday, it is affecting my ABS and my Traction Control System.. so annoying.. I have an 05 denali, looks like the sensors are fairly cheap, but i wuld rather clean them than order new ones.. Let me know how to clean..

There is a recall on the sensors, you are right. But thats only for up to the 2002's. Seems like they never fixed it for the 2002+ because everyone still has that problem and it isnt safe. Think im going to send GM a few emails. Maybe harass my local Chevy.

But yes please let us know how hard it is to clean them. Does it pay to DIY or just have it done. Today i was told almost 400 for parta and labor on one sensor alone

It isn't that hard to clean them by your self.

Remove the wheel, caliper and disc. Unscrew the senor and pull it out of the hub. Clean the surface that the sensor is mounted on and put everything back together.

Make sure that you don't get any debris in the hub while the sensor is removed.

I'd say it takes about half an hour for each side.

my abs light comes on occasionally with the parking brake light at the same time. would my issue be related to the rear sensor or front?

I had this same problem, if you turn off the traction control/stabilty system it will stop enabling the traction control and you will retain the ABS. You have to do this each time you start the truck, but at least no more dangerous engaging of the traction control.

I have an extended warranty and GM said it wouldn't cover the cost of only cleaning the sensor, b/c it wasnt damaged. I argued with GM, but it refused to cover the cleaning. Fortunately, the entire hub needed to be changed b/c it was damaged and that was covered.

This is becoming a more common problem as our trucks age, and as mentioned below, only trucks 02 and older are covered under the recall. I pointed out the similarity between the 02 and newer sensor issues, but GM refused to hear it.

For others who may have this issue that the dealer must recreate in order to diagnose, it took me 3 phone calls each time expalining in painful detail how to make the traction control kick on at under 5 mph. Of course, each time i was treated as some idiot who reads crap on the internet and then incorrectly diagnioses his own truck. I am sympathetic b/c i am sure that must happen all day, but thought i would share my experince.

01Konvict - i dont think you have the same problem, although yours may also be caused by a bad sensor. my issue was the traction control/abs kicking on when on dry pavement under 5mph.
