How does ethanol-free gas effect your engine? Do you get better gas mileage? Is it more expensive? I will be near one tomorrow. I should be near empty by the time I drive by there so I'm looking forward to trying it out. How do these stations get away with selling it, not sure if its a law or not? I noticed most are at marinas or near them so I'm assuming they are mainly for boats. There is only one inland but a ton near the coast. I also noticed some are service shops.

Yes, real gas gets better millage, I actually think my truck runs better with it. In terms of price, it's like paying for premium v. 87. I don't even look at the price. The problem with ethanol gas is, there really hasn't been long term testing on it. And the current administration is trying to get ethanol bumped from 10% to 15% in gas. That really can't be good for engines.

Where on earth do you live if you don't have real gas?

I always get gas from the same station, I'm not necessarily picky as to brand, but I like to keep it at one station to isolate problems should they arise. Also, it has to be 100% gas, no ethanol, unless I flat out don't have a choice. I also avoid filling up, if the tanker truck is there. My grandpa insists that it's bad for your fuel pump, due to stirred up debris on the bottom of the tank.

I live in Orlando. I went to the ethanol free station and they no longer sell gas. In FL, the stations have to have double wall tanks, piping, etc. so most stations had to have everything replaced. That could be a reason why they aren't selling gas.

Ethanol produces less energy than gasoline. It is also more acidic, thus more corrosive, than gasoline. If a vehicle is not made to support ethanol it will run into long term problems such as piston rings failing and fuel lines corroding. With the Obama Administration trying to push E15 (testing is now complete on MY2007+ vehicles, and being conducted on older cars), and Cash for Clunkers happening back in 2009, I wonder why we are really on Ethanol. I don't know how many people I talk to that complain their 2 stroke yard equipment no longer works because of ethanol. Fortunately, an ethanol stabilizer fixes this problem. Lucas makes some. Because ethanol produces led energy than gasoline it also decreases fuel economy. There is actually much research done on the long term effects of ethanol. Ethanol is nothing new. The entire island of Maui got all of its electricity from an ethanol powered electric plant until sometime in the 1970s. Their ethanol came from sugar cane. Brazil is very dependent on ethanol fuel. It's cheaper and more accessible for them.

Tribological testing results on modern automotive internal combustion engines were provided by a university in Canada as early as 2007. Economic impact reports for the production of ethanol were provided by a university in Iowa several years ago. The gains aren't great. There is tons of scholarly information out there. You just need to look for it. I recommend Google Scholar.

The problem with the Ethanol is most cars that are 5 years or older aren't designed for it. The ethanol eats at the fuel lines and will corrode them away.

The reason ethanol is especially bad for boats is actually simple. When the gasoline is vented, the E10 attracts water. Boats are on water so it's rather humid. The gas tanks are vented (hence why you should run your blowers before you start up). Water in your fuel tank isn't good. Engines can get corroded, not start, sputter... dead in the water. Since autos are driven on a more frequent basis than a boat, they don't have this problem (plus their tanks are sealed until the car starts, where air is then pushed into the tank to give it some backpressure).

^^ This explains why we just had to do $800 of repairs to the fuel system on our boat, because of the idiot before us.

Do you think he ever stabilized the fuel? I know I have to do this to my ATVs or else it means Im going to spend some serious dough.
