Snowdrifter- Poor writing on my part, meaning the $2.00 and $6.00 are the same with only marketing claims being different. Available specs the same, same manufacturer.
Sludge- Truthfully there are several causes of sludge. Airplanes (recips) oil changes at 50 hours typically. Hard to totally wear out the oil that quick, but electrostatic discharge, oxidation, moisture, lead, additives, and temperature all contribute to the dropout of sludge. I mentioned Ash as an additive to research, others mentioned zddp.
Better specs- What is this stuff in the jug? Synthetic? Which class? A reformed molecule... So my thoughts are all oil as we know it is synthetic for the most part. Look at Air Conditioning/refrigerant oils, about the only ones left where marketing isn't running the show. Spec numbers and types mean something.
Honestly, I get classification to some degree as a 0W20 oil made to increase gas mileage is a way different oil than a 20/50 racing. In the end, it is up to each of us to research what and why we choze per application. If they just listed what is in the jug it would save alot of headaches.
Oil analysis- a very worthwhile maintence tool. Also useful for finding an oil that works.
" Bobistheoilguy" is a favorite place for me to begin my product search.

For starters I drive a 2006 GMC Yukon denali xl, LQ4 6.0.

i wasn’t really sure wether or not to post this here or the engine/drivetrain category. So if this is the wrong place sorry haha.
But I was just curious as to what kind of oil you guys use, I’ve been running royal purple for every oil change for about a year now, and was looking at other options. I figured what better place to look for advice than the forum with the same people and the same LS trucks as me.

anyways, what is the oil you guys use and why? thanks in advance if I don’t reply quickly!
I use 15w40 in summer and get better fuel economy than the 5w30. In winter I tend to use 10w30. I am in Canada and even with the cold temps 10w30 is fine.

Well, you already have the best, so if cost is an issue, I would suggest Rotella Gas Truck. If you want to pick up another mpg, change your trans fluid using Royal Purple or Red Line synthetic.

I picked up about a quarter mpg by switching off of plain M1 to ACDelco full synthetic. No more rattles on start up and the Blackstone Labs report is better too. Rotella Gas Truck has similar numbers and when the supply of my favorite oil dries up I'll switch to that.
I got 5w 30 yesterday because that was in bulk. Mobile 1 is the brand. In summer I usually use 15w40 but next summer might try a thicker one than that.
