Mine start sweet, nice and quiet. Giver her 5 minutes or a drive and it ticks. Mainly drivers side. Tjeres mobil 1 5-30 in there now with 122k on the clock. And from all i can tell its not an exaust leak

does it follow the rpms all the way up? how loud is the tick? is it the same as the engine rpm or faster? my 5.3 makes a slight ticking when your under the hood but its not an issue. these motors have a noisy valve train

The fuel injectors on these trucks are moisy as well. I could always here a tick when I was under the hood so one day I wanted to find it so I took a piece of garden house about 3-4 feet long and went searching by holding one end to my ear and going around the motor. Sure enuff thee slite tick was from the injectors. Well besides the normal cold moring piston slap.

I only really bring it up because mine makes a lifter type noise but only when the engine is warm. It is a pretty loud clatter the is easily hear 5 feet from the truck. Sounds wicked bad like sitting in the drive threw, when a wall or building is very close. Tonight i reved it up slow in the Starbucks line and its gone at 2000 rpm. Ive got no idea what an injector would sound like.

Next time you have it in the oil rack ask your shop to take a peak and see if you have an exhaust leak. I had one broke 4 bolts on mine. Had to weld nuts to get it off and my noise went away.

all of them actually, the header bolts tend to snap off sometimes when trying to break them loose. and the bolts at the collectors tend to break off, it usually requires some welding. a muffler shop should be able to fix a collector issue no prob. header bolts can usually be drilled out, but sometimes they need to go to the machine shop
