When I was still a mechanic, my shop used to swear by Jasper Engines and Transmissions. We used them for the 10+ years I was there and I think they still use them now.

I build my own with good quality parts and the good sonnax sun shell and bearing. My last trans was built using a monster in a box kit. 400hp is nothing when you build it right. Or spend the money and convert to a 4l80E. Find a good core and you will still have 2k into the trans.

I've heard that it is extremely difficult. Things might have changed since I was into the swaps, but I do remember you needing a standalone computer just to control the transmission. Partly being older trucks have just a BCM, whereas the 6L80 needs a BCM and TCM. Something like that... I want to say the costs were extremely high, around $6-8k.

Check out performancetrucks.net. Those guys are gurus.

6l80e.
Why bother with inferior parts?

4L80 is not exactly inferior. The 6 speed was designed to save on gas, not because the 4L80 was poor in performance.
