Will a dealer swap wheels?

Hi all,

Trading in my 2021 Premier for a 2023 Premier. The 2021 has 22” chrome multi spoke wheels, and the 2023 is getting delivered with 22” polished aluminum wheels.

I like the chrome better. If I covered the labor cost, would you think the dealer would take the new tires off the 2023, mount them on the the 2021 chrome wheels, then put the chrome on the 2023? The polished aluminum and the old tires could then go on the 2021.

Understood there would be, at a minimum, labor costs. Plus I might take a hit on the trade value. But it might be worth it.

Would a dealer do this? I’ve asked but I won’t get an answer until Monday (it’s Saturday now).

Make it part of deal and won't cost any extra if they want to make sale plus, they will have your used truck with new wheels to help sell your used vehicle.

You 'may' be able to do this, since both wheels are OEM GM wheels.

I know that a dealer won't put aftermarket wheels on the vehicle before it officially leaves the dealer's possession and becomes your possession, due to liability issues. I had this situation where I traded in a vehicle with aftermarket wheels that I liked, but the dealer would not transfer the wheels to my new vehicle, even though they would fit perfectly well. I had to do that on my own, after I had legally taken possession of the new vehicle.

The issue is the old chrome wheels cost more. IIRC they were $2995 new in 2020; the polished ones on the 2023 are $1995. I’m thinking they might hit me on my trade value; but hopefully not.

How much tread life do you have on your current Chromes? And are they the original set of tires?

If it were me, assuming you have your original tires still... I would just ask to do a straight swap, leaving the tires on each rim as is, then getting new n better rubber on the chrome when needing replacement.

That’s a factor too. Original tires with 54k on them - due for a new set. That was part of the allure of doing the trade - I’d be saving ~$1,200 on a new set of rubber.

I would propose making an even swap (rim with tire) for your current chrome, for the incoming polished aluminum. Feels like it would be a fair trade on both sides, if the dealer would play ball.

Sometimes the dealers have pretty decent pricing on new rubber, and will price match tire shops pricing as well.

Dealer did the swap and put the new tires on my old rims. Charged $250 labor but it’s a done deal.
