I have a 2013 tahoe and the rear axle went out. destroyed. almost irreparable.....

@OP Please elaborate.

Almost everything inside any axle housing regardless of make should be removeable, replaceable and upgradeable.

You might be better served by upgrading the parts inside the current axle housing rather than switching to an used OEM housing with unknown history.

How is the project coming along?
Forgot about this thread lol. It's done now, I didn't have to do any custom work it bolted right up. While I had the axle off I decided to extend the brake lines, diff vent line, and abs cable. Already being on 8 inches of lift with plans of going bigger in the near future, I could play my brake lines like a guitar at full droop.
Everything else was pretty simple, did a tcase and transmission service, all is well. Actually found a frozen caliper slide pin while checking the brakes which explains the occasional right pull I had.

IMO 4.10s are spot on for a gen 4 5.3 on 37x13.5s, definitely a bit more pep, a lot less struggle on hills. I actually found a net gain in MPG (supposedly). I used to get about 16 cruising at 35-45 in town, and 13 on the highway, now I'm getting about 19 and 16.
Don't know if the mpg calculation is thrown off due to gearing, but I'll have to check

With 3.08s and 37s, my speedo read 5mph low at city speeds, and 8-10mph low at "70". With 4.10s and 37s my speedo reads about 10mph high at any speed, slightly more accurate at low speeds and slightly less accurate at high speeds. Highway cruising isn't as loud as I thought it would be. Overall the gears feel better than the full stock setup, I personally like the shorter range

That's awesome, post up some photos when you can.

The gears definitely help with larger diameter tires. My Sierra on 35s has 3.73s and someday we'll put 4.10s or 4.56s in it. My wife and I are loving the 3.73s with stock tires and 6-speed.
