Alot of people try the 5.3 heads because they say the flow pretty well for the price but i would try the ls6 heads

a buddy of mine is running stock casting 6.2 head on a 635 lift cam in an LQ4 his 79 malibu. car is consistant 10.75 car. under $300 a piece from the dealer. Throw a set of valves in and springs to match whatever cam you want. a nice cheap head that will flow plenty for whatever cam you get if you decide to go bigger later.

6.2 heads or ls heads

im sure the ls heads would make more power than the 6.2 heads ...right?

it all depends on the set up and what you want out of it. the cam is what will dictate power. you can have huge heads but a cam that doesnt match it will make them useless. the good part is you can run a pretty healthy cam and still be plenty streetable with these motors. hell, depending on what you want you can probably run stock heads and be ok.

your best bet is to call a reputable guy to spec out a custom grinde for what you want. ask him what heads would be best whether it be stock 6.2 castings, ported lsx heads, ported 5.3 heads or whatever. read up on performancetrucks.net for all that. those guys know their stuff.

5.3 heads is a horrible idea for your lq4 6.0. The 5.3 heads flow less than your stock 317 heads. Only good it will do is to raise your compression a good bit.

The Ls6 243 heads are good IMO, it will give you a nice rise in compression and flow, so you will be needing 93 octane with a tune. Should make that LQ4 have lil more compression lil more than a LQ9.

Lastly, the L92 heads are the shit... 550hp NA out the box with heads and a cam. better than Ls6 heads if you want to make more hp. But I do belive you will scarifice I lil bit of low end. Also the L92 heads are not a direct bolton per say. You still need lifters, rockers I belive. As well as the new intake and throttle body.

I believe the Ls6 243 heads on my LQ9 is more than a Ls2 engine compression, turns out around 11.1 compression ratio. Which is prob what I would do in the future, personally if I stay N/A

LQ9 with mildly ported LS6 heads is essentially an iron block LS2. There is a guy on LS1tech running a stock bottom end LQ4 with 5.3 heads milled to 59cc and a cam and he's making 426 at the wheels through a 4l60 and 11.2:1 cr. Check texas speed. That's where I go for all my info. Working on a 6.0 f-body build myself.

Personally unless you get a nice set of ported heads, be it a set of 243's, 317's or aftermarket, and a nice little cam and supporting mods I wouldnt bother with the time.
A stock head of either is a waste of time and effort. Also an LS6 cam will give minimal gains on a 6.0l, I'd go a larger cam for the displacement. Vinci Hi Performance hasa 216/224 cam that would be a nice fit for ya. Debating that cam myself if I deside to cam the Hoe.

For the stock cam specs if your curious check this out- http://www.smokemup.com/tech/ls1.php
