wont shift into park...

ok so i went to put the truck in gear one day to go to work and noticed that it was kinda hard to drop it out of park but it eventually went. later when i got to work the damn thing wouldnt go back into park which meant i couldnt pull my key out. i had to miss half a day because i refused to leave my truck in the parking lot with the key still in it. i thought my lower shift cable had come aloose because the guy that changed my tranny fluid broke the plastic piece and had to rigg it back up....long story short i took it to a tranny shop and they determined that the upper cable broke at the safety switch ( whatever tht means). of course the part can only be picked up at the dealer locally. the part came as a kit (upper and lower shift cable assembly) for $62 and the dealer quoted me $225 for the labor. i'll probably to take to tranny shop to let them put it on for $110.......so incase anyone has a similar problem one thing to check is the safety switch. i was told that the switch usually goes out but this time it was the cable.
