Would this be a dumb idea?

Okay back to more serious stuff for a moment. Does anyone have the torque specs for the brake caliper, bracket, and guide pins for my '05 Yukon? Also, I know the bracket bolts are assembled with yellow thread lock. Should I use blue loctite?

and what is this parking brake thing you guys speak of? being from Michigan not something that gets used much, or lasts that long. ususally are so seized up they get cut off.

A very interesting and informative discussion. I have never used my parking brake on automatic transmission vehicles. To be honest, I don't even know if it works on my truck.

Food for thought.....

Make sure you test it at home when you have time to deal with it if it doesn’t work.

I agree. I have no slot in my backing plate. It is a remove rotor and adjust till it feels right......

That's what I did and it was a pita. Worst design I have every seen, the good news is, I probably never have to do it again.

Yes, and when you set the park brake, you do it with the transmission in neutral and foot on brake and then shift to park.

I couldn't get my wife to do that at the boat ramp. One day she pulled the boat out of the water on a steep ramp, put it in park, then set the brake. After I finished strapping and draining the boat, she couldn't get it out of park. Neither could I. I finally slammed the gearshift lever with my fist to break it loose. I was really afraid that I was going to break the linkage and we'd be really stuck. I gave her another lesson on how to set the brake, in great detail this time.

I never use mine either, in fact my 02 doesn’t even have the shoes and adjusters installed at the moment, I was chasing a squeak and removed them. They’ve never worked anyway. And my Silvy lays on its rockers aired out and there’s no room for the foot lever or any need for an e brake.
