Have a 2015 Yukon XL with HD towing. I have a question about the auto leveling and towing.

When they installed the weight distribution hitch, I wonder if its adjusted correctly. When they put on the trailer, it would have automatically leveled the rear to compensate for the weight. Would that trick the adjustments?

With round numbers since I don't have the exact with me), I weight the Yukon w/o trailer and it was about Front Axle 2800, rear axle 2900 (Total 5700). With the trailer loaded, it was about Front 2400, rear 4400 and trailer axle's 6000.

I would have expected the front and rear to be a little closer and wouldn't expect the front to decrease if the hitch was adjusted properly.

Is there a way to disable the auto leveling on the Yukon while you are adjusting the hitch? (Believe it levels whether the vehicle is running).

Am I on the wrong path?

I know nothing about weight distributing hitches...

That being said... It should not level if the vehicle is off so you could test it that way.

You could also remove the links that control the auto leveling instructions -> http://www.belltech.com/extras/docs/BBGC/34324.pdf

Finally you could pull the fuse.

I don't see how auto-leveling has anything to do with it. All that does is add stiffness to the shocks so they don't sag, it doesn't redistribute weight. I do understand your concern about weight distribution and since I have never weighed my setup I can't advise you. I don't see any harm in adjusting the weight distributing hitch to shift more of that weight to the front. Your total tongue weight shouldn't exceed 1000 lbs. The method I follow per the manual is to measure the distance from the wheel well to the top of the tire on both front and back. Then attach the trailer and adjust the weight distributing hitch until it's as close to normal as possible.

Steve, the problem is when you put it on the hitch, it will level it before you have a chance to measure the distances, thus throwing off the adjustments. Mine would level even if off. So I think the best way is like someone suggested and to take out the fuse while making the measurements. After the hitch is adjusted, then putting the fuse back in and letting the auto leveling function work normally.
That only has to be done one time when initially doing the adjustments.

I tow a big trailer, 30+ft long. I always tow with my WD bars and I had the auto level system, it tows so much better with them on. Now that I have air bags in the rear, I have no problem being level, but with that said, I still run my WD bars for safety and better trailer handling characteristics. it just plain follows the truck nicer and goes around the long sweeping corners without a wiggle.
