wheels, roof rack, front facia, all paint matched (bumpers, fender flairs, grille etc) with no chrome, i think the steps are different. the z71 sits a little higher. cant remember anything else off the top of my head.

Yes the steps are different, they are black nerf bars. They also have the gray lower plastic valances (assuming to prevent rock damage to the body panels). The rear end is also a G80 locker, but if you're talking just appearance, then redemn93 pretty much nailed it.

yeah i hate that my 4x4 LT is an open rear diff. might be my next upgrade. have to find a locker from a z71. question though. when 4wd is engaged is the front diff open or a possi/locker?

Jason, I would be happy if I were you that you dont have the GOV BOMB G80! It will make life easier to install a Detroit Locker or Powertrax in it, plus you dont have to worry about the G80 grenading on you and causing more damage. As far as the front diff on our trucks, they are all OPEN, without a limited slip or g80. Your main concern should be to lock the rear diff, as this will ultimately prevent you from spinning just a left front and a right rear tire when flexing or crossing thru a ditch at an angle. Alot of people swear by the tru-tracs, but for more hardcore offraoding, my Powertrax has been aswesome and without any noticeable driveability issues besides the clicking sound when turning.

thanks 99. i wasnt aware that the Z71 rear was a timebomb. im wont be doing alot of offroad play. even then just a few mud holes here and there. i got the 4x4 mainly for traction as the boat ramp. so i think a tru-trac would be a good option for my use. i really dont want the clicking.

Had a question for you guys. I bought what I thought was a 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71 from an individual off Craigslist. It has the 4x4, emblems , painted grill and bumpers and even has the black matte fender guards . but when I took it to get insured and gave them the Vin# it didn't come up as a Z71 but rather a Chevy Tahoe K1500 . Is it the same thing???? I really wanted the Z71 and hope I didn't just get a regular Tahoe made up to look like a Z71. Can someone help ?
