If you didnt have a Yukon/Suburban/Escalade, what would be your next choice?

I've been looking for precisely that. Been driving a 2001 Yukon daily for 353K miles (same engine and tranny), so I was looking at another Yukon. Seeing that we're empty nesters and I'm a retirement age, buy and hold guy who still uses the truck for fieldwork and exploring, I really liked the AT4 with the Duramax next year. Problem is it's gotten a lot longer than I really need. Same with the Wagoneer. The GC was interesting, especially with the discounts people are offering. The Defender was exerting a very strong pull, but the inevitable reliability issues are driving me away. So what I'm looking at this fall is a GX Overtrail+. It has a good balance of luxury and ofroad chops, no piano black, right length, won't need a third row, and I expect it to be reliable.
I love the look of the GX Overtrail but have second thoughts about the twin turbo V6. Some of the hardcore Toyota/Lexus mechanics think this is not the best way to go. Twin turbos provide the towing and HP but the V8 is proven to do the same and better.
Fuel economy with the twin turbo V6 is no better than traditional V8.

In other posts.... I mentioned my 2016 Infiniti QX50 SUV.... Medium size, but a pretty good cargo when rear seats down. And... a 7 speed .... 325 horse..... 3.7 V6.... rear wheel drive / 370Z suspension. A fun car..... Full optioned at less than $40K.
The crap Cadillac medium SUV, $40K standard... $60K optioned.... yuk...

It seems like a lot of suggestions are for non GMC products. For me I've driven GMs most of my life. If it's the price and you need the size look at a pick up. A friend just got a 2500 and it's sweet. Full cab with 5'5" box.

Wagoneer L for me. Don't love the look of the Expedition and I'm pretty sure they don't have HUD unless you go to the Navigator. Sequoia is too small if you need to use the 3rd row, which I do because of kids. The Wagoneer drives great and has plenty of power. It's built out nice on the interior and I like the look. Wife has a standard length Wagoneer and it's been great to us so far, no issues.

2nd Choice at the time of purchase was an Expedition w/ Stealth Package.

Now I would look at a Wagoneer or Exp/Navi. Sequoia is too small and the 3rd/cargo area is useless.

Just yesterday I looked at a Grand Wagoneer with a 6.4 damn that baby moves so smoothly! The ride quality is leaps and bounds better than our Yukon. The exterior is just ok, IMO the GM triplets are the best looking full size SUV's.

The interior on GW is pretty impressive and the carpet quality is something GM should take note of (I hate cheap a$$ carpet on our 72k Yukon) layout is good, but not any better than the Yukon or Exp.

With the discounts on the 23' GW it was very tempting!

Was disappointed in the economy as well. Won't be towing, so not expecting to stress out the engine and tranny in any way. I can see having a V8 loping along at a low rpm might be preferred to a turbocharged anything. My hope is that if anything truly looks unbaked from Toyota that they'll be on it quickly. And any QC issues will be solved quickly seeing that the GX is built in the best plant in Japan. Been here long enough to hear about years of Yukon/tahoe complaints about booming in the interior (previous model) and AFM-related V8 issues. But what are the real odds of actually being hit with that or any other problem? Tough to tell.

I have to look at it from a different perspective. I would not own a GM full size right now. I like the 3.0 diesel, but the interiors suck, in my opinion.

So in my eye, its if I wasnt able to own my GMC Envoy, or my Rivian R1S, what would I buy?

I actually really like the Ford Flex... Except for the timing chain water pump thats a very expensive fix, and if not caught in time, motor replacement. And as someone else mentioned, they arent made anymore.

Like others in this thread, I like the Durango, a lot. Its reliable, family friendly, with better seats than most anything I have driven (including my Rivian). But its still a Stelantis product, and I dont trust that company at all.

The Wagoneer is just to big. Dont have much experience with the Nissan or Toyota.

So... I dont think I would buy anything..
