I purchased a used usb nav update for my 17 Tahoe
It won’t work, I get a message on the screen (see photo)
I’m guessing the stick is bad or it can’t read the stick.
I didn’t pay much for it so I’m not worried about getting my money back.
I was thinking and wondering if this will even work. I’m thinking of getting an so card update from GM then transfer to a new usb stick. Does anyone think it will work?
I know I can use Apple Play or Google Maps but I really want to update the factory nav.

Thanks in advance

The usb drive is tied to the VIN on the vehicle it was ordered for. I purchased from GM and after updating, I looked through the usb drive. I don't remember which file it is, but there is a control file (probably an .ini file). Look through the files on the drive and once you find the right control file, open it with notepad and do a search for "VIN" and you should find a 17 digit vin following something like "VIN=". Try replacing the vin with yours. I'm thinking it's in there 4 or 5 times so keep searching and replacing then save the file once no more are found. I only found this in one file. This may or may not work, but it's your best shot. The data may be encrypted, but why leave the VIN in the clear? Good luck.

I just ran across my map update thumb drive. There are two files that you will need to update your VIN in. Both are the same file name. First is in Cryptnav/Program/SDX_MY16.dat the second is in Cryptnav/Data/Data/Misc/SDX_MY16.dat. There is one line in each file that requires your VIN. It should pop out at you, but if you have trouble, let me know.

I don't know that simply changing that will work, but it's a start. I don't have access to another GM vehicle, so I can't verify whether or not it works.

As others have asked, please let us know if it does work.

Thanks
I’ll take another crack at it this weekend
I couldn’t find the file in the earlier post. I’ll see if I can find it in the other file

What is the latest software version for the 2015 - 2020 truck models? Mine is showing map software version 84513064. I can't seem to find anywhere that lists what versions were available before GM took them all down.

I tried opening the file that Ozark posted but it wouldn’t open. It just went to a media player
The part# for the update is 84990634
I’ll try again in the next couple of days
Thanks to all that are helping me out
