Sine the Y171 update, my wife noticed a few issues with the infotainment system. It looses 4G signal on and off, the Sirius XM audio cuts out, Car Play doesn’t connect automatically like it use to. It isn’t just her phone, mine doesn’t connect either, has something to do with the WiFi, it doesn’t connect automatically, I have to manually cycle the infotainment WiFi.
I was going to have the Y172 update done, then yesterday out of the blue, she gets in, starts it, all the radio station presets are gone, the 2 driver seat presets are set back to factory, and when CarPlay finally connects, it’s like someone hit the magnifier and enlarged the CarPlay infotainment screen. Mechanic looks at it, no codes, battery tests good, he said take it in and get the updates done.
Wife drives it home, sets everything back up. This morning she gets in it, all is well. She is running some errands, parked for maybe 10 minutes, gets in, and everything is reset again. She isn’t happy. Looks like a trip to the stealer for the updates, “Failed Brake Fluid Level Detection”, “Serial Gateway Module and Radio”, and the Y172 update. Hopefully that will either resolve the issue, or brick the infotainment so they have to replace it.
Missing the days of the simplistic pull the station button out, push back in to set it.

Wife gets in the car this morning, starts it, all the stations were there, the seat button programming was back, neither of us did anything, no OTA updates. The stealer said Y172 should fix the CarPlay, 4G, and a few other nuances.
I told him they said the Y171 update would fix the lane departure issue, but it has created more issues, and didn't fix the lane departure. The lane departure either thinks it is always in the correct lane, or it shows no lines. It never alerts or signals, no vibrate, no beeps, no trying to gently steer it back in place. The stealer called this afternoon, apparently the Tech Center has a fix they want to upload for the lane departure. Stealer said it's a one off, he has an Escalade with the same issue. I asked if it fixed the Escalade, short answer is GM updates are VIN specific, and as far as he knows, they only want it applied to ours. Tells me I am the tester. I wonder if the fix is a guess, or if they tested it. In order for the lane departure to be updated, stealer needs the car for a day to apply Y172, the recall fixes, then he has to call the Tech Center and have them release the lane departure fix. Odd thing with the lane departure, it has to be working, but not displaying the true status, Super Cruise still works like it always did, hasn't missed a beat.

If this is about the “Data Gateway Module” recall?

I had my 2024 Tahoe in for that and it took hours and way longer than I expected. So far I haven’t had any issues but did have to re sign in for some apps. Also I did notice some weird stuff happening when I approached the locked truck with fob on me - some lights going on but I didn’t notice this before, maybe it did but it seems new.

Wow. All this would give me nightmares if I spent $80k (more?) on a vehicle that I intended to keep for the long run.

It is a bit unnerving, but all the manufacturers have issues, none of them are exempt, basically, pick your poison. The updates were done this morning, plus the additional lane departure fix, and all is working as it should once again. The lane departure hasn't worked in so long I have to get used to it again.

I'll give you one little tip. If you ever do get things sort of resolved. Do not do any more updates.
