The other day I got in the wifes 05 Denali and put in drive but it felt more like it was in Neutral so I stopped from rolling put it in neutral than back to drive and all was well. My wife told me she was at the car wash and put it in neutral but it acted like it was in reverse.

Anyone else seen this? Gear selector getting worn or transmission or something else?

Check the linkage down at the tranny.

Almost sounds like it's slipping...

If it's on the correct gear (confirm it is), and you rev it and it doesn't go or only crawls, then it's slipping.

I checked the linkage because I read about others having the snap on cable connection disconnect from the transmission lever but it was all tight everything looked good.

If that linkage was messed up, that definitely would've been best case scenario. I messed up the linkage once in my old Express van--I ran over a huge cone--and it had a similar issue that you had. Did you look really good at the plastic ends on it?
