@opfor2 I've found it's easier to go through the retailer, I would have them send you a new part and then just take the parts out that you need and send them the tie rod you didn't install back to them

I'm curious about this, did you top off the grease after installing them? Before bolting to the knuckle? After bolting to the knuckle? Was there any grease between the knuckle and the boot at all?

I grease them after torqing them down so that I can make sure that I'm not overfilling them but these failed early for some reason. The new one and the other side have been fine

Well Crap???? Maybe ???
I just tonight came across this thread. I just ordered all TTX stuff for my rig.
All 4 control arms, All Tie Rod Ends, ... Hopefully I won't run into any issues.
I've never had any issues with the Mevotech Supreme stuff. I figured the TTX
was even better. I'm gonna do this job ONCE with new wheel bearings and
struts this summer sometime. It'll have to be lifetime cause I'm gettin too old
to keep doing the heavy stuff !!!
I'm thinking of going with new CV shafts too. RA has a line of the HD ones
that are supposed to have more bearings in them. I'm actually not having
any issues at all right now. But with almost 140K I'm gonna freshen everything
up. I'm keeping this rig til I'm dead !

@Foggy I'm with you, it's financially and morally responsible for us to drive em until we can't.

I am overall happy with the Mevotech parts, out of all the parts I RMA'd I think it was the lower balljoint the whole time but fingers crossed. Rock auto has some new nice stuff I went with the new Dorman HD outter tie rods they look interesting.

GM OE is not necessarily the same as ACDelco when it comes to control arms on this generation. The ACDelco are literally Moog CK Series control arms and are lucky to make it 10,000 miles before the ball joints need replacing.

And that is what all these control arm quality issues come down to, the quality of the ball joints. Some of the aftermarket are replaceable, so you can keep swapping them out.

I cringed and hit the buy it now button for my GM OE control arms almost 4 years and 50K miles ago.

I've looked at the dorman HD stuff from RA. I get nervous about 'some' dorman
stuff so i have not bought any yet. I've got way too many cars myself and
i work on all my friends/neighbors cars.. So I buy a lot of stuff.
The TTX stuff I just bought was actually from Summit Racing and is being drop shipped
direct from Mevo, so maybe I'll have better luck. I was able to price match and use
some summit bucks I had built up. And I didn't need it right away.
I'll try out the the dorman hd stuff on my next front end to give it a try. The price
seems good !!!

AH, didn't know that ! I just ordered some control arms from RA for 1 of my OBS trucks
that I'm going to freshen up. I did the whole control arm as I wanted new bushings..
As the ball joints themselves on these are fairly easy. i ended up doing the delphi ones
because the price was right. Thanks for the info

recently did mine, cringed and bought oem, hopefully they make it another 180k
bought almost everything off of amazon because I have a tax exempt business account and free shipping, one arm did not ship after 3 weeks so I canceled it and ordered off of RA it was only a few bucks more but showed up 2 days later.
amazon and RA had the best prices, amazon just barely beat out RA because of no tax and no shipping cost
dealer wanted like $1000 per lower arm, amazon/RA was around $340, uppers were under $200, tie rods about $90 for the outer (pair) and around $65 each for the inners
so around $1250 total, mine is all cast iron I think the aluminum and stamped steel are cheaper...
I was sore head to toe afterwards, but I wasn't going to pay ridiculous labor.....
