    A/C Problem

Been waiting for any replies to my origingal post, but it seems that most folks (like me) are not really A/C knowledgeable. But, I have found out some info. Since the compressor does come on after a while (about 5 to 10 mins of driving) and it runs cold, am thinking that one of the inline...

    A/C Problem

My A/C has started to act strange in that it does not come on all the time. I have a '00 Tahoe LT 5.3L with Automatice Cliimate Control and rear heating/cooling. Sometimes the A/C compressor light comes on automatically as it should when in the auto mode and works fine. The problem is...

    Fuel Pump Whine

4 days now, and the whine has not come back. The other point I forgot to mention - Advice was to keep the tank about 1/2 full all the time, keeps the pump covered in the tank with gas. Well, I used to do that, and the whine would ususally not start until it got below 1/2. It just...

At what mileage should my tranny/coolant be changed at?

My manual on my '00 LT 5.3L calls for 5 years, or 150,000 mile intervals. I have done it at 5 years, and it is now due again this summer. Still looks good. Trans should be 50K (heavy service) or 100K (car sees "regular" service). I would use the new DexVI trans fluid for it and Delco...

    Fuel Pump Whine

Have had the whine for a number of years on my '00 LT 5.3L. Of course, the dealer has always maintained that this is "normal". And after reading about all the folks who have this same problem, I guess it is. Read someone's post to try Lucas Fuel Treatment. Not a big believer in snake...

    Differential Service

Nice job. I did mine a year or so ago, and used some Redline "Shockproof" rear dif fluid. Wanted to use a syn in the front, but I heard that you should only use the GM approved front dif fluid. Probably BS, should have used RP or some Redline. Does the RP meet the spec called out for the...

    Replacement speakers

bc69 - Did you do the replacement yet? I have the exact system in my 2000LT (5.3L), and am looking to do the same thing. I found these at Crutchfield - Alpine SPG-17C2 Type-G 6-3/4" 2-way car speakers — fits 6-3/4" and 6-1/2" openings $59.99/pair. The couple of reviews said they...

How often to change Synthetic Oil.

I am now going 5k miles or 1 year. Don't really put a lot of miles on the truck ('00 Tahoe LT, 5.3L). Use Purolator Pure 1 filters. From a lot of research I've done, you could probably go 10K+ with good syn and good filter, but I still won't go more than 1 year or 5K miles, old habits die...

I am new here and picked up a 2000 Yukon XL

Tires - Strongly recommend Grabbers, I put em on my '00 Tahoe at 100K miles, best tire I ever had on it (had Goodyears, they sucked, Cooper Discoverers, they were OK, Firestones, they sucked). Go to Tire Rack and read the comparative survey charts on it, ranked them #1, and they were relatively...

    Best spark plugs?

Have the same truck, put the AC Delco Iridium in with a new set of NAPA premium silicone wires (were about 85 bucks for the wire set). Plugs were about $6 apiece I think at Advance Auto. This plug is the one recommended by Chev. to replace original AC platininums they don't make anymore, and...

Knocking noise on intial movement for the day

Could be a lifter. My 2000 5.3L LT has had a minor "piston slap" over the years, but oddly, it seems to have gotten better the more miles I have on it (at 105K Now). Seems to have gotten better when I switched to 0W-30 M1 at about 80K miles. But, I have noticed in the past 8k miles what I...

    Engine Hour totals

I read somewhere that in marine engines, 3000 total hours of running was about when the engine should be near rebuild time. Was wondering if there were any comparable numbers for auto gas engines. I read that 5000 hours running time was fairly typical, but that may have been "back in the...

    SQuEAKY DOORS!!!

The top weather strip needs to be siliconed as the other folks have mentioned. That was one of my problems and it works. The other part squeaking was the part that goes into the door through a rubber boot that you will see there. Pull the boot off, and shoot some lithium grease onto the shaft...

    Cargo Security Shade

I have a grey one from a 2000 Suburban, I will check to see if it has a part number on it. It is like new, never really used. email me at [email protected] and let me know if I need to check it out for you.

    service 4wheel drive

The selector switch sounds like it has gone south on you. Easy to pull out and replace. Dealer should charge about 79 bucks for it. Happened to me (00 LT 5.3L)/

    Fuel gauge sensor recall information

The guage on my '00 Tahoe LT 5.3L went out in 2005, and it was the sending unit, which was replaced under extended warranty I had on the truck. Was seperate from the fuel pump.

    Fuel pump high pitch whine

my '00 Tahoe LT 5.3L has had a fuel pump "whine" for about 6 or 7 years running. Dealer has always said it was "normal", just like the minor piston slap noise it's had on start up since just about new. Now at 9+ years with both and 104K miles. It typically starts to whine when the tank gets...

You guys use high mileage engine oil?

The lower weight won't have an influence on oil use (0, 5 or 10) , it would be the "top" weight, ie: 30 to 40 that would matter. A lower number in the lower weight flows better at ambient and cold temp start up than the higher numbers, but I am sure you knew that. If you do not want to...

You guys use high mileage engine oil?

My 2000 LT 5.3 had a slight piston slap and ticking that lasted for the first 30 seconds or so pretty much since I bought it new in '00. Now at 103K miles with it. Engine has always run well, just the same now as when it was brand new. Used M1 since new with good filters (Purolator Pure...

2003 Z71 Cabin Air Filter Replacement?

I got a set of cabin filters, Purolators for about $12 at Advance that included the install instructions in it. The instructions were actually good and very easy to follow. You could go look at them at your local store if you get stuck. FYI

    Differentials and Transfer case fluid?

I did mine per the recommended fluids in the owners manual except for the rear dif, where I used Red Line "Shockproof" synthetic in the next lube weight up from the recommended viscosity. Oddly, the manual does not recommend synthetic type for the front dif, so I just stuck with what they...

    WTF!!! SQUEAKS!!:emotions122:

Good suggestion. Also check your idler pulleys in the belt system. I had some on my old BMW that the grease dried out in and began to squeal. You may be able to break it down once you remove them and regrease them with some good synthetic wheel bearing grease. Good luck.

about to attempt my first Chassis Lubrication

I have had 2 grease guns, one a pump action, one a "Lincoln" brand air (pneumatic) activated. The inexpensive pump types sold by any car parts store should work well for you. I counted 11 zerks in the front end, your diagram shows others perhaps along the drive shaft area that I will need to...
