    Can you feel it or just hear it? If you feel it, is it in the steering wheel, floor board, seat, etc? Might be along shot, but might check under the hood to make sure the deflectors around your radiator/fan are all snug and secure.

    Your magnet grabbed some decent sized pieces and you may still have some left in the gear case. The metal on the rag in the photo came off of something in your differential.

    Did you open up the differential or just swap the bearing? With that much play, and the amount of debris you had on the plug, I would want to see what's going on inside.

    It was a catastrophic failure. They were on their way to youth group one night and put out a fog screen out the back and lost heat in the cab. My dad's 1997 C1500 showed signs by having antifreeze puddle under his truck. Had his replaced a few years earlier than my son's.

    Grinding noise

    Your intake manifold is plastic and on top of your motor. I have never heard of one rattling. If it was, you would have a myriad of codes. The stamped heat shields on the exhaust manifolds can rattle as well. Nope. Not seeing any signs of wear from the starter in that photo.
