    DIY Exhaust Thread-Dynomax Bullet

Nice work. Using clamps for the muffler might have been a good idea, you may be replacing that Dynomax one day. Unfortunately my experience with Walker/Dynomax left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't ever purchase another of their products. In my case a lifetime warranty on my...

    2004 denali resonator

What is your goal, power, sound, economy? I replaced the stock system on my 05 Escalade with a Magnaflow system and didn't notice a bit of difference outside of sound, the stock system seems to be pretty free flowing. Most of my vehicles have had aftermarket systems on them and this was...

Suspension increased comfort/handling suggestions, please help.

At your mileage you probably need most of the suspension components replaced. I'm almost finished rebuilding the entire suspension and steering on my 05 Escalade with 90K miles on it and it is a night a day difference in ride and handling. The only things left original on the front end are the...

Advice on possible 2005 Yukon SLT purchase

A crew cab pickup with the diesel might be better for you. Towing 9K pounds is a lot to ask of a gas engine, most folks I know that tow anything heavy stick with the diesels. A coworker took a bath on a 6.0L 2500 series Chevy when he traded it less than a year after he bought it. He replaced...

    Mods for Gas Mileage

From what I have read over the years there isn't much that can be done to improve the mileage versus what you'll spend for the small gains. The problem is the old tech engines we have in these trucks. The newer engines with variable valve timing seem to benefit quite well from tuning. I had an...

About to replace Inner and Outer Tie Rod Ends - Any Suggestions to make it easier?

Good point, as mentioned a lot of labor overlap in that area. I replaced mine at the same time as the tie rod ends and found the pitman and idler arm to both have play in them.

    Battery issue

The battery protection doesn't work for instances like that, it's more for high drain loads like the stereo system, headlights, interior lights, 12v cigarette plugs, etc. In your case the tuner was keeping the PCM awake constantly it sounds like. I had a similar experience, not with a tuner...

About to replace Inner and Outer Tie Rod Ends - Any Suggestions to make it easier?

They are pretty straight forward, more so than a lot of the other vehicles I've owned. Only suggestion is take the old ones off as one piece so you know the length of what the new assembly should be to make it a better drive to the alignment shop.

Would you consider your Tahoe/Sub/Yuk as fragile?

I knew I was asking for it when I gave my opinion, it was a loaded question. I don't drive most of my vehicles hard, the only exceptions being the occasional flogging of my STS-V and Vette. The others are driven quite normally. I plan to tow with the Escalade eventually when I pick up a...

Would you consider your Tahoe/Sub/Yuk as fragile?

It's possible that it was abused before I bought it, but I've found the items I mentioned in several of my vehicles as weak points. I don't think all of them were abused. My 03 Trailblazer also needed to have all the suspension rebuilt before 90K miles as it was pretty sloppy. My Escalade...

    Rear heat help

I don't have them handy, but I found them by using the parts lookup from Advance Auto. The expensive one is the one that controls the air temp. I need to fix my truck one of these weekends when I figure out how to get to the modules. Did you have to remove a lot of trim, carpet, etc to get to...

    Tahoe 6-Speed T56 Conversion

Very cool... I must be getting old though, I'm pretty content with an automatic on my commute. I drove stick shift on my 100 mile commute for 3 years and I've had enough of that. LOL. I still have my 6spd Corvette for my fun car when I feel like rowing through the gears, so I haven't totally...

Would you consider your Tahoe/Sub/Yuk as fragile?

I guess I'll be the bad guy here. I've owned nothing but GMs my entire life with the exception of a Honda Civic for 6 months and now an Audi A6 for a part time commuter car. I'd have to run down the list again but I think I'm around 16 or 19 GM vehicles in about 26 years of driving. I do...

    Front end parts...what brand?

I have Moog tie rods and Raybestos Pro Grade idler arm, idler, and pitman arm. The Raybestos has grease fittings, but the thing I really like about them is they have a pretty tough grease boot, makes the Moog and Delco boots look whimpy. Grease guns are important. I just purchased a new...

    Exhaust

Two years might be ok, I just prefer the better quality stainless, wider band clamps as I plan to keep the vehicles a good long while. If you still have the truck 5 or 7 years from now I wonder if you'll still have those original U-shaped clamps on there. If you need to tighten one up one day...

Front end groan, w/ new hub assembly

You didn't try the cheap eBay bearings did you? I made that mistake on two vehicles and neither vehicle lasted 10,000 miles on those bargain bearings. I figure when a bearing normally cost about $200 each, getting two for $90 is getting what you paid for and getting to do the job twice.

to sell or not to sell

With what you've put into the truck I'd say keep it. I'm trying to learn to do the same. It seems I always buy older vehicles, spend a lot of time and money to get them perfect, then get bored and dump them for the next project. With your mileage, I also wouldn't expect much from the vehicle in...

Front end groan, w/ new hub assembly

From what I understand the front diffs are quite prone to failure on our vehicles. I'm looking at my 05 right now trying to determine exactly what my problem is. I'm not getting a groan that I can tell (exhaust may be masking the sound) but I do have stuttering/shuddering under light throttle...

    Best Year to Buy?

Wondering the same thing. When I was shopping I specifically looked for an 05 model year. First year with the electric fans and last year of the strictly Class II data bus (06 was hybrid Class II and CAN). Anything special (stronger) about the 02 and 03 model years?

    Front end parts...what brand?

I like Moog, Raybestos, and AC Delco. I don't remember about Moog but Raybestos and AC Delco have two grades, regular and professional grade parts. The best prices I've found have been on Amazon.

Electric fan conversion MPG gains question

It's been a long time since I saw the claim, but I think it was from one of the reviewers on the 2005 model year trucks when GM switched to electric fans. I believe they claimed a 1mpg increase due to removing the drag from the engine. No horsepower gains though although I'm sure there are...

    Better Brakes

If you upgrade make sure you check the spare. My Escalade came with 17s but the spare is a steel 16" wheel with a slightly bigger tire. Might be worth picking up a bigger spare on eBay if you upgrade the brakes. It wouldn't be fun to find out your spare doesn't fit anymore when you need it.
