Wow, very cool mod. I'm going to have to apply that to a few of the vehicles.
One thing I always was annoyed by is having to press the button to turn on the driving lights. Older vehicles you were able to have them default to on with the headlights, all newer vehicles have them as a separate...
Look at eBay and Amazon for permanent replacement mirrors. I've seen quite a few that look similar to the stock mirrors but pushed out for towing. From what I remember, if you spend a few bucks more you can get the power/heated mirrors.
I'm thinking about these things as I plan on getting...
Had an electrical drain on my Escalade that drove me nuts till I found it, probably took about a month. It wasn't as subtle as yours though. Mine would drain overnight, or very quickly (2hrs) when hot, nearly left me stranded away from home a few times.
In my case it turned out to be the...
Yeah, that's about the only thing I don't like about living in a snow/salt area. I grew up in AZ, spent almost half my life after that in CA before moving to the D.C. area about 8 years ago.
After rebuilding some suspensions on a few cars over the last few years I'm finding out I don't enjoy...
They all recommend welding but I haven't seen a single system that didn't come with clamps.
I changed mine out in my driveway without a jack. I cut the factory system in areas where it was straight enough to be able to splice and clamp back together again if I ever wanted to reinsall it. Cut in...
Never heard this one before. But the fact that it stays in drive when the auto 4WD is engages makes me think it has to be the transfer case. Nothing else IMO that it could be. If it was the trans then it wouldn't care if you were in 4WD or not.
Unless the tranny and transfer case are giving you any issues I'd leave them alone and just replace the rear main on the engine.
I'm not a fan of rebuilding a trans unless it needs it. Too many folks I know have had their rebuilt trannys not shifting as nice as stock. Of course they went to...
Sorry I can't help with your original question. Just surprised to find a cam position sensor on these vehicles. I thought only engines with VVT had those.
The reason I'm replying though is check to see if you need to have the new sensor calibrated with the computer. I had the position senor on...
Thanks for the reply.
So it appears that my only option if I can't find a good off-road shop is the core swap.
The only concern I have, at least with the eBay units I find as a source is that they only have a 3 month warranty on most rebuilt units I come across. That makes me a little...
Looks like I'm going to need a front differential rebuild soon. Lots of junk on the drain plug and vehicle seems to drag on and off as I'm driving it.
I talked to my local shop today to find out who they use to rebuild differentials or if they do it in-house and was told that nobody in the...
Ah the fun of cheap wheel bearings. :banghead:
I learned my lesson my my old Trailblazer (10K miles), and Aurora (6-7K miles) before having to do the job a second time.
Never again will I buy cheap wheel bearings, it's worth the extra cost to not have to do the job again.
Don't forget to pick up a set of new wires before you start the job or you might not be driving it afterward.
I learned that lesson a long time ago when I destroyed some baked on wires during a plug job and ended up walking to the store for a wire set afterward.
I changed my plugs out at 85K...
Not picking on you but I don't quite understand. You've always bought the factory manuals but you're wondering if they are worth it? Do you not use them and buy them as an, 'in case' fallback?
I always buy the factory manuals and find them indispensable when working on my vehicles. Don't ever...
Maybe look into Allstate for your home insurance as well, might save you a decent amount getting the multi policy discount.
I keep full coverage on all of my vehicles, even my 98 Olds. If I'm remembering correctly I need to for the umbrella policy I also carry in case I take out a group of...
I found this on tonkinonlineparts. Only found the rear brake diagram though, nothing for the front.
http://www.tonkinonlineparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=817472&ukey_make=1086&ukey_model=15875&modelYear=2002&ukey_category=22516&ukey_trimLevel=19627
Look up GMPARTSDIRECT.
I found the diagram for my 98 Olds by looking up one of the brake system parts. The website showed a diagram of the brake system with part item number next to them. That should give you an idea of how they are routed.
No tune on my Escalade but I did have a tune on the Trailblazer I owned. No regrets there, it was well worth the money.
I've contemplated getting a tune on my Escalade but I wonder how much they're really worth. On the Trailblazer I had the I6 had VVT so the tune was very effective. On a...
I just went through this on my 98 Oldsmobile, brake lines severely coated with rust and one let go, luckily in my driveway instead of the freeway where I drove it the last time.
Age doesn't seem to always be an indicator either, on the Cadillac forums a guy is dealing with GM on a claim for a...
Good news for you.
I lived in CA for 15 years and hated the smog checks. $80+ for incompetent people to abuse my vehicles on dynos, fail me for having aftermarket CARB documented bolt ons, etc.
VA does the check using the method you say CA is moving toward. All they do is check for codes and...
Sorry I had a typo in my post, it's Dex III-H fluid, not E. As far as I know the H describes the additive package in the fluid. When GM specs the parts, trans, diffs, transfer cases, engines, etc they spec them based on the fluid used at the time. So they spec'd it on the Dex 3H that was...
No, not Dex6, it's different than Dex3H.
I couldn't find the reference I had prior, but here is one from GMTechLink:
https://gmspecialservicetools.spx.com/Media/Common/Documents/may2007.pdf
"Precaution: DEXRON-VI in Manual Transmissions
When DEXRON-III is indicated as the fluid fill for...
I'd look at a wrecking yard and get one from a donor vehicle. I don't think these things go bad too often.
Also having a parking brake is good when you actually need it. You likely will find yourself needing it on rare occasion and parking on a hill up against the parking pawl isn't good for...
Yup, that's what I plan on doing.
As for the alignment, I'm set. LOL.
I do all the work on my vehicles and have been replacing suspension components quite a lot in the last few years on several vehicles. I have an alignment contract on each vehicle and have them aligned at least twice a...
