What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

@mattbta Any time I work on AC, after I'm done I "pop" the valve with a screwdriver or something. The burst of escaping freon will clear any dust or debris out of the valve and let the system seal itself again, usually.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Finally replaced the few crumbles of rust I had hanging off the back with a fresh bumper. Didn't realize the Tahoe and Silverado bumpers were different until i'd swapped the mounts over and slid it into the frame! No matter, actually improved departure angle a little. Also tossed the factory...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Got the new 315/75r16 Firestone MTs on the truck today. We're going to have just a little clearancing and more work before the truck looks balanced, but she's getting more and more ready to be the long distance off road/camping rig. I did get a set of five (had one spare matching rim!), So I'll...

What's a good year? Or one to avoid?

Doh! Yeah. I've got tractors on the brain.

    Is a 2000?

I've gotten a ton of vehicles this way. I picked up a Land Rover Discovery that was overheating. Probably $1000 worth of new parts on the thing. Paid $400 for the truck. It didn't have a fan shroud. Fixed the truck that afternoon 2 years ago, and guess what I'm driving to work today...

    Anyone need a 95 Silverado?

Man, that's wild. We're building an '89 2wd Stepside at work and going to ask $35k for it, but it's getting a fresh 383, fresh 700r4, FiTech, full body, paint, interior... It'll be a new truck.

What's a good year? Or one to avoid?

00-02 is what I personally prefer. They're electronically a bit simpler. Engine, transmission, axles, brakes are the same 00-06. If electric fans are a concern, that's an easy retrofit. I put electric fans on every vehicle I own to replace the mechanical fans. All that said, 02-06 are still...

How to code out O2 sensors/cats?

Get some of the 90 degree defowlers, they'll work. You need HP tuners to tune the code out which is $400. You can also just get a set of high flow converters for about $65 or $70 on ebay. And you won't have to worry about it. Unless your converters are clogged you will notice zero difference in...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

The ole girl had her 300,000 birthday a couple weeks ago! Been giving her some love for the big occasion. New ball joints in the front, rear end to replace the one that's been making noise for 20k miles (now with G80!), Rustoleum'd the frame, and more to come. Here's to another 300k. We just...

    Can't get fan clutch loose

You call also take a second pipe wrench and hook it into the back of the pulley. The pulley wrench you'll be using sideways. This will let you hold the pulley and you can put as much force as you can muster into it.

    Restoring headlights

I always just use a buffing compound. If they're really bad I will wet sand first with 1000 grit followed by 2000 grit, then buffing compound to bring the shine back. After you have used whatever product you use, be sure to go back over them with an automotive clear coat. Duplicolor in a rattle...

    Tires

I've had 3 sets of the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. They have taken everything I've thrown at them. Awesome in snow and rain, surprisingly acceptable in mud (for an A/T), and killer tread life. I've only used up one set that I absolutely abused. I didn't keep them rotated very well, I didn't keep them...

    Tire suggestions

With 6" of lift you ought to be able to slam 35s under that thing *if* you wanted to. 285/75r18s are a 35x11.50. That's what I run on my Silverado. If you want 33s, I am a huge fan of 285/75r16s. 33x11s. I run these on almost all my vehicles, including my two off road rigs. Very common and they...

    Recommendations for 4L60 Rebuild

This is good recommendations. Precision trans knows their stuff. I build mine similarly as well, and abuse them. Wide band, .500 boost valve, Corvette servo, z pak, PWM block off, 4th gear accumulator block off, change the other two accumulators to aluminum, transgo shift kit, transgo HD valve...

question on ordering front wheel bearing

That's a shame to hear, and I'm all for buying the good stuff if you have the change to spare, but you're sure to have a horror story from every manufacturer once in a while. The way I see it, I can buy four or five cheapies for the cost of one AC Delco Gold. I've run dozens of the Chinese hubs...

question on ordering front wheel bearing

I did just check Rock Auto and they are having a wholesaler closeout right now, $25/ea for hub assembly. Power stop brand.

question on ordering front wheel bearing

Timken and Delco are good if you want to fork out the dough. I like many others have had mixed results with Moog, not what they used to be. In truth, I've had really good luck out of the ebay Chinese cheapies. I've got one on each of my trucks right now. Replaced a bad Moog with one...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Got the black grill in. Looks all right, it's a different color black unfortunately, but it does free the chrome grill up for my work truck. May have to repaint it to match body color better.

    Manual switch for efans?

Factory trans coolers also get plugged up sometimes. A bigger trans cooler would likely solve your issue. I *intend* to replace the trans coolers on all my trucks, though I've never actually gotten around to it..... Too many higher priority tasks keeping the fleet running.

    Torsion Keys

I always crank mine and immediately follow up with a front end alignment. Also no issues to report.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Did the high beam/low beam mod today, grounded the yellow wire on each low beam with a nice little heat shrink eyelet. That should be a major improvement. Also spray bombed a crappy spare grill I had (off a parts truck that the PO had spray bombed the whole truck.... poorly) to see if I want to...

Radiator keeps taking my Transmission out

I've be looking very closely at the terms of my warranty to see if they even have the right to deny you. I doubt they do. If it dies and they try to deny you, I'd be demanding a refund, under threat of legal intervention if necessary. I'm with everyone else. Only four points of intrusion...

    Rock Sliders

I am planning a set, but mine will be replacing my rusted out rocker panels. I plan on using 1.5x4 or 2x4 steel rectangle tube and then tying it into the frame. I also started a set for my Silverado out of 1.25" black pipe using a Harbor Freight Tubing Bender. I've done a bunch of stuff with...

    Are 4wd lifts Compatible with a 04 2wd tahoe?

Yes. They are not optimal on a 2wd; a 2wd has the benefit of retaining stock ball joint angles with a spindle lift. However, if a spindle lift is not an option then a 4wd lift will work fine. However, you also say keys are not an option. What type of lift are you looking at then? To my...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Been driving around over a year with no drivers side fender liner. Finally got one in it yesterday. Threw some 1.25" BORA wheel spacers on the front as well. Also a little off topic, but found some significant rust in the cab of my '07 Silverado.... Leaned in to reach the baby in the back seat...
