    Brakes @#$% 1999 Tahoe (obs)

how old are your brake lines? rubber brake lines are well known for loosing their firmness over time. If they're OEM, change them with new rubber lines (you don't need stainless steel, they're just for looks on these rigs - but they definitely look cool) If you have no leaks, drums are...

    285 or 265

I just did that exact upgrade in tire size!! IMO, not much impact on handling, this truck is already slow...but b/c I went with Extreme AT's, they are a little noisy. The engine/tranny is handling it with easy, but you should definitely beef up your shocks (Bilstein HD's or equiv) and look...

anyone do E-fans on a obs??

To "power" the fans, you are going to need relays. Check out the setup above I used, it identifies the temp sensors and relays. THis is the expensive way to run both speeds, but it's completely automatic. The cheaper way to run both speeds is with a Volvo relay. I would have gone this...

    How to level?

great advice all around - I decided to jump on the 1.5" block. From my original measurements, I know I didn't exceed 1.5" in lift. I'd like my truck to sit just slightly raked downward in the front..this will help with mpg and I also personally like the look. I'm hoping to install within...

    1 - 1.25" block

I've been checking but the smallest i could find is 1.5" block. Anyone know where I can buy a 1 or 1.25" iron block for the rears??

just make sure you steamed the interior REALLY well...you can't even imagine what happens in the seats of police vehicles.

    brakes

out of curiosity, why are you looking into a rear brake conversion kit? If it's for visual improvement, rear disks look much better then drums. But if it's for pure stopping power, there are conversions (hydroboost) that will give you a much better bang for your buck. Your front brakes are...

    brakes

Check the seals around the master cylinder, anything leaking out? Next I would check the calipers and the brake lines...particularly around the connections. If everything is really dirty and you can't tell, wipe the Master Cylinder and the calipers (where the lines connect) down with a cloth...

Chilton Repair manual? Yes or no?

You should be able to find newly printed - but it will run $75+ (mine was around $125). Personally I would save your money on Chilton and invest it towards the shop manual...just keep searching!! :)

trippers - what fender flares do you have?? (they look sharp) Any photos showing the profile of the fender flare against the tire?

Chilton Repair manual? Yes or no?

It depends on the type of work you are going to do. I personally always buy shop manuals for my vehicles (the same ones dealers have). They are more expensive, but the information provided is leagues ahead of Chilton. As an example, I just found a complete OBS set (4 volumes) on ebay and...

    brakes

I also run this setup, but I'm using Hawk LTS pads instead of SuperDuty. SuperDuty will stop faster, but also generates more brake dust. Unfortunately I've never compared the two side by side, so I don't have any photos to show... When you install the new setup, follow the break-in...

    z71 bumper?

Z71 bumpers are really tough to find b/c they're painted. However, LMC sells them in chrome - check out the ones w/air inlets...i personally like the ones with impact strips, w/o is too much chrome for me. http://www.lmctruck.com/ THose air inlets are typically used for the Chevy's with...

    DefendHawaii's 99 Tahoe build

staying within $1400 for tires and rims of that size is going to be really tough IMO...especially when you factor in shipping, mounting & balancing. But if you can find a used local set, that should be within the range. Great looking rig - i completely agree with swapping tires/rim - I...

    Post your setups!!

they only have 100miles on them, only highway so far!! Lots of reviews on these tires and many more...but as a wise man once said (he's on this forum)...."opinions are like a$$holes everyones got one" and this goes for tires too. They are a little loud on the highway for my taste, but I...

    Post your setups!!

Cell phone photo...I'm also on a hill, so the front looks a bit higher then the rear, but its only about a 1" difference. Also, I did not have to trim (5" bs) and the wheels just squeeze by w/o rubbing. 1.5" Crank Mickey Thompson Classics - 17x9 ProComp Extreme AT - 285/70R17

    4x4 Rigs - Long Haul - Photos??

So I'm thinking of morphing my truck from it's current stage to a 4x4 rig that could disappear in the woods for a few days of camping and 4wheeling and not need to come back out until I was good and ready. I picked up a 300+page "4wd Action" (Austalia) magazing at Barnes & Noble over the wkd...

    new wheels

be careful with spacers...do a few quick searches and just make sure you understand the risk of running with those. Otherwise, have fun modding your ride - I look forward to watching you mod it up!!
