The IFS actually isnt bad as long as you keep the CVs level. Its when guys crank the hell out of the torsion bars and all the geometry is off that you break things constantly. My truck has around 1100rwhp and ive done dozens of full powered 4wd launches on a drag strip with drag radials and...
Its basically tightening down the spring so it applies force before it starts compressing. Normally as soon as you apply force to a spring it starts compressing at whatever the spring rate is, so if you put 200lb of force on a 100lb/in spring, it will compress 2". Now if you "preload" the spring...
I believe that upper mount is specific to ridetech coilovers, which are fine by all means, but I designed the top mounts with qa1s in mind. If the ridetech style will work with my brackets I dont know.
Sale ends tomorrow at midnight!
Shocks are sized based on the ride height you want. If you can measure from the lower shock bolt on the LCA to the top of the shock hoop I can tell you about what size you need. Springs are based on the shock used and the weight of the vehicle. You can adjust the height somewhat by increasing or...
Yes I suggested that based on feedback from him. It looks like in addition to the better bushing you want to use some sort of large fender washer or williams washer to better distribute the weight.
No problem, let me know when you want to try them out for yourself! ;)
He is the first one to finish an installation with the stud top I think, so its normal to run into minor issues like that. Similar to the issue I ran into with the included plastic bushings.
Here is his build thread for anyone looking...
The lower bracket moves the shock up 1.75" and the top bracket moves the surface down about 1/2". So if you measure from the bottom to the top and use the stud mount subtract (1.75+.5=2.25") 2.25" from that number to give you your shock length. If you use the procomp shock adapter, that piece...
I know guys have purchase them, not sure if they have installed them. They are holding up great, I have roughly 1200miles on them and zero problems.
Possibly...if the frame is the same as the gmt800 trucks in that area and has torsion bars. Do you have a picture of the LCA and upper shock...
Oh, I guess I havent posted the info over here yet, my bad. I am having a sale on the brackets until December 31. Full sets are $20 off and upper/lower sets only are $30 off, so $170 for just uppers or just lowers with hardware, and full sets are $330 with hardware. After the sale the price goes...
Billy, you could always buy just the lowers now while they are on sale ;)
The bottom bracket more or less keeps it inline with the stock shock. The upper mount doesnt really move it side to side at all.
I cant comment on the drop spindles since ive never had them, but there was some...
Andrew, even with tuned jounce bumpers I am sure coilovers will ride better. Let me know if you have any questions. The bump stops I used simply bolt through the pad the regular bumpers contact. I did cut off the factory bumper holder with a sawzall so the bumpstop had a smooth surface to...
I can't comment on the rear suspension setups on tahoes since Ive never messed with them, sorry.
The place with the least clearance is actually between the UCA and spring when installed. You have some options of moving the shock around using little spacers, but its closests when the truck sits...
I have thought about that, but there is no easy way to get to the inside of the frame to weld in a support sleeve. That is also more involved for the user to install, it will obviously be stronger, but as soon as you say "welding" it scares a lot of people away. If you are going to weld things...
I have never messed with flipping the UCA so I cant really help you there, but the math is pretty straightforward to figure out what spring and shock you need, or at least the specs of each. With adjustable shocks like the ones i use, qa1 ds301, you can adjust it from extra squishy to riding...
I was under the impression the 2wd tahoes have coil springs up front, in which case, no. My kit uses the LCA that has factory torsion bars. This doesnt mean you cant put coilovers on your truck, it just means you may not need my lower bracket. I believe my upper brackets can be used in 2wd...
Thanks man. Yea it uses the stock LCA. I have not tried different spindles but I suspect you cant use an aftermarket one because of the required shock distance. I am not positive though...
the SUVs weigh around 6000lb I think, so around 1500-1600 per corner. It depends on what shock you use...
I actually dont use straps anymore because ive found I dont need them, but they can be easily added.
Yea the bumpstops do need to be trimmed, but only the corner area, it actually doesnt change having the stock bumpstop there. I highly recommend adding in aftermarket one on the bottom instead...
Heres the link to pt: http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/gm-drivetrain-suspension-22/99-07-4wd-front-coilover-conversion-518118/
I was going to see if there was interest for it on this site before I posted basically the same thing over here.
Spring rate depends on what shock you go with...
I cant post pics since im at work, but this is the thread I made on PT. I have some better pics I need to throw in there but you get the idea. http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/gm-drivetrain-suspension-22/99-07-4wd-front-coilover-conversion-518118/
Lift the front end off the ground, start the engine and let it idle, move the steering wheel slowly from full left to full right and back a few times. if you have hydrboost also depress the break pedal while doing this.
