Welcome to the site. I haven't done this mod yet, but am planning to in the spring. I'm adding a second battery in the open tray up front (you need to pick up a few new parts for that - they are cheap) and switching to a mechman alternator and 300a or 500a isolator. There's the battery...- Pivot

Couple of notes I didn't add in there - be super light on the heat gun - the one in the pic above almost got me; it was the first one I did - I was gentle with it and still almost overdid it. And 'train' it back down while you're heating it. Then also be very gentle with the gorilla glue too... -

Ultimately I landed on gentle heatgunning of the rubber strip to soften it and make it pliable to lay on the chrome again. There's no manual mechanical release that circumvents the actuator, but if you remove the actuator from the mount, you'll just have to manually lift the gate. It's pretty heavy without support, but it's not bad. When I changed my actuator, I just propped the gate up with a 6' ladder with a rag... -

Bummer, indeed. Thanks for the part number! Yes, I googled, and everything I've found speaks to the typical problems that occur when the actuator goes bad. I'll spend a few more days investigating then I'll probably go to the lock mechanism and replace that if I haven't found something else...
