Well after all the previous work I ran into a problem where the camshaft would not rotate after torquing the cam bolts. While trying to solve the issue I reinstalled the old retainer plate and that did not solve the issue. Leading to the replacement ebay camshaft being the issue. I placed the...
I went with Meiling 3srh60 timing chain to replace the old timing chain. Had a heck of a time getting it to line up but I finally got it. Is there a way to double check its timed correctly?
Update: Bought a stock rated camshaft and got it installed. I reused the cam plate/gasket after cleaning it since gasket was in good shape and it's the recessed style.
I have a new timing chain and the way. But will still be using oem sprockets they seem to be in good condition.
I didn't...
Some of the sensors on the gen 3(99-06) are in different locations than the gen 4. The 2 different years use different reluctor wheels on the crankshaft so youll need some type of signal converter and a extended wiring harness
Got all the rings gapped and pistons install and cleaned the cylinder heads next I'll be checking the valves/seats and replacing the valve seals until I decide which cam
I was able to get the ring to spin freely today using some sand paper, a broken ring and pb blaster. Bottom end is finished next up is choosing the cam.
Anyone tried the sloppy mechanic stage 2 cam ???
the grove is damaged. Im thinking this can not be repaired.I'll ask the machine shop this Monday.
The rockauto piston thats 30 bucks is a GM and the pistons in my block are GM just the part numbers are different. I was hoping if someone knew if they would be interchangeable
Yes the top ring grove has a scuff around the grove which makes the ring get stuck in the grove. When I dis assembled everything I used a wire brush, brake cleaner and piece of broken ring to clean the groves. All other piston and groves are ok.
Got the bottom end almost done just have 1 piston I think I will need to replace because the piston ring top grove doesnt allow the ring to spin almost as if its binding without the ring being compressed. Next question the damaged piston has these numbers on the top "81064G L229 05 411 A3". Ive...
Took the crankshaft back to the machine shop during my lunch break and showed the guy the scratches and he said they had to already be up there because the scartches have no burr...meaning the scratches had already been polished. He said that it shouldnt effect the rear main seal.
The machine shop I used cleaned it up pretty good compared to how it looked when I dropped it off when I looked at it when I picked it up I didnt notice it. Hopefully it cleans up when I get some time this weekend to work on it. Im trying to keep this rebuild at a minimum I would hate to get...
I will try the emery cloth and see if that helps. Im thinking this wont cause much damage. When I rub my finger over it I can barely feel the scratches.
I thought I found a good machine shop I had them check the crankshaft afterwards they polished it and said it was good to go. And I doubt I damaged it during transport.
I also decided to examine the camshaft to see if it could be re-used and it looks like one of the lobes has a bad flat spot.
Thanks guys. Got the crankshaft torqued and thrush seated. What's the cheapest way to measure??
Also I was looking at the crank and the machine shop said it was fine but I noticed a hair line scratch or crack
That's what I'm confused about now I seen one article online that stated to hand tighten inner bolts then use screw driver or prybar then torque..the other one followed the same procedure you mentioned about torquing the inner bolts first pass then smacking the crankshaft with rubber hammer back...
No I did not know this but thanks. Once I get my hands on some 30w engine oil i'll start the torque sequence I was hoping that assembly lube would work for the bolts the price of oil here is 7 bucks a quart
Well the block checked out good still uses std bearings. Last night I got the main bearings installed and used a little assembly lube on them.
Can the main cap bolts be re-used? Also the side main cap bolts?
