The one caveat to what I said earlier is that more ground clearance would be nice, but I still wouldn't want much more if any lift height if you're going to be doing any off-camber driving.
If you're really looking to overland, depending on where you plan on going, I wouldn't want a lift based on my experience in my Yukon XL. It's already uncomfortably tippy on some Colorado trails. Keep your COG as low as possible. I'm running 34x11.50 on 18x9 wheels with 20mm offset with 2"...
I mounted a swing-out tire carrier on my Yukon which now blocks the view of the back-up / reverse camera. Has anyone relocated theirs to the top of the liftgate?
As a side note, my transmission was replaced at 50K.
@2001 TX Tahoe Please start your thread in instead of piggy backing on another thread cause the bulk of members here will not see it. Adding your year and model will also help.
I had my 2016 Yukon transmission serviced for the first time at 98K miles. Drain, fill, new filter, and deleted thermostat. On they way home from the shop it started running very rough, felt like it was misfiring. Did this about 3 times. Threw a PO171 code. Back to the shop, the code was...
This is all very helpful. Thank you.
Ballpark, what should an ECM tune cost from a reputable tuner?
Deleting the hardware... is this a "tear the engine down" type of mod? How expensive and complex?
Finally, what happens when the dual mode lifters fail?
Interesting. I wonder if that makes them more prone to failure, because I have heard that they are a known failure. And to clarify, both cases are 2015-2020.
I have two friends, both with 6.2L motors under 100,000 miles, that have had to replace their motor mounts. Is this specific to the 6.2L or is it an issues with the 5.3L as well?
I’ve read some about this topic but need some educating. I understand there are components (lifters?) that are responsible for switching between V4 and V8 modes. I've also read there is an OBD II module to override this so that it stays in V8 mode. Also read this is just a band-aid. So, am I...
Thanks for the feedback. Good info.
I guess I'm wondering about the geometry of the rear suspension regardless of spring manufacturer. At what height will it throw things off? For example, my 6" BDS lift came with brackets for the control arms and track bar.
Air Bags - I came across the...
This really has me thinking about my Yukon suspension now... and I just bought a TRX .
On your rear set-up, do the 2" Dobinson springs cause any issues with the track bar and/or control arm lengths or angles, or the driveshaft pinion angle? Which air bladders are you planning on...
Moving the front wheel forward will make a big difference in clearance. Does the kit leave the front differential in the same spot? Any negative effects of moving the hub and not the diff?
Rear of the fender is the main contact point with bigger tires. Also run a wheel with enough positive...
Sounds like it will be pretty awesome when you're done! What parts are you using for the steering or are you doing all custom? What upper control arms are you planning for the front?
If it's not too late to return the 32's, you might want to consider it. With 3" of lift they may feel small...
I have both a 2016 Yukon XL and a 2020 Yukon Denali. The XL is my "overlanding" vehicle with a 2" leveling kit with 34x11.5 tires and the Denali is a daily driver with a 6" BDS lift with 35x12.5 tires. You're right, the XL is long and low, but based on my experience offroad, I wouldn't want...
2016 GMC Yukon XL SLT. Relatively new Odyssey battery. I noticed on a road trip this summer the voltage gauge fluctuating while highway driving. Sometimes it would be centered on 14V, but it was often dropping down into what looked like the 11-12 range. I didn't notice any issues that might...
2016 GMC Yukon XL SLT. There are two coiled cords / wires that connect to the rear glass defroster. One of them came off the glass. I can't tell if it was glued on or soldered on. Any idea? I don't want to just use regular super glue if it was soldered or requires a special adhesive that...
2016 GMC Yukon XL SLT 4WD 97,000 miles. Normal transmission operating temperature is around 196 degrees. This summer in Colorado, while in 4WD off-road, temps climbed up to 240. Later, on a 2-lane road with some steep grades, temp got up to 255. It was 55 degrees or so outside. I didn't...
The failure ended up being an electric module in the power steering rack. Told me typical fix is replacing the rack, but the rack was on back order so they replaced the module, but then it had a grinding noise afterward. Went back and at that point the rack was no longer on back order so they...
