Hello all, I have an '01 Denali with 240k that was used as a daily driver/commuter. It recently took a dive and is hard to start, when it does it will not stay running without holding the gas. I have no codes when scanned, just the "service engine" light that has been on a while. I'm wondering if it could be the coil packs, since they are the originals. I have hear MAF, but I tried a MAF from an 07 TBSS with the same results.
I'm purchasing a new Denali, but would like to get this running to use as a car to make my JY runs in. Also can I use the round coils as a replacement if I change the bracket? Any direction offered would be appreciated.

I'd start with a tune up, fuel filter change, clean the maf, & cleaning your throttle body out. Generally, the won't idle issue will be carbon/oil/sludge buildup on the top end.

It's not a coil issue...they either work or they don't as they are not rpm or engine speed dependent.

If you have an ses light you've got to have a code.

I had a friend scan it, he said it didn't return a code. I'll try to clean the MAF and TB to see if anything changes.

It's got the DBW throttle body? I've seen this on quite a few trucks. Get some carb cleaner, clean your TB good. Open the blade with your finger, spray all in there and wipe your finger around to clean it out. It will be hard to start at first, but should solve your issue. It's always worked for me.

Yep just like this... And if you have a SES light its cause by a code. If you cant read it 2 things wrong your buddy's scanner is broken or the computer is toast. Which could be the reason its not running correctly also. Try another scanner.
