Without warning my transmission stopped working. I drove a few miles to the gas station without any problems. After filling up, I went to drive away and it would not move. Tried all R D 3 2 1 and engine revs freely. I pushed it to the side of the gas station, it wouldn't roll unless it was in neutral. I had turned it off, but I thought I would turn it back on and try one more time and listen for noises. And it worked, no problem, all gears! So I headed back home. I make it about 1/4 mile down the road and it seemed to go back in to neutral? Engine revs freely in all gears. So since turning it on and off worked before I tried it again, and it worked again! 1/4 mile... revs... turn on/off... works... repeat about 10 times and I make it home.

1. Why would turning it on and off make it work... even briefly??

2. Should I have the transmission rebuilt or start somewhere else??

200,000 miles with no major problems
