Sorry for quoting you, meant to quote scottydoggs. He was talking about the underhood ground to firewall which will not cause a problem with anything other than a hood light. What year did they stop using the undehood lights on c and k chassis? My 99 Sierra had the underhood light but my (2) 2003 Tahoes and 2005 Yukon Denali neither one of them have a underhood light.

I just notice the OP said under the hood "of my wifes CAR". Are we even talking about GM C and K chassis trucks/SUVs?

You did quote Scotty. I was just agreeing with you because you clarified what I had been referring to.

Well now that everything is as clear as mud we have established that there shouldnt be a braided ground going from the hood to the firewall and there shouldnt be a underhood light on a 2005. There should be a braided ground wire going from firewall to engine block and it should not have corrosion on either end or be broken.

no under hood light and a 05 gets a ground strap hood to fire wall. both my 05 hoe, and a 05 3500 work truck have it...my 03 gmc 2500 also had it. my 97 gmc 3500 had a light and a ground strap as well...it had a awesome light too. the light came out and had a real of wire inside it, the light could reach all 4 wheels.
