Yes. My E brake has never worked since I've had the Tahoe.

Hello,
I have an 03 Tahoe Z71 4x4 that started making a awful noise like something is falling out and grinding in the tranny. It started while on the hwy at 60 mph. It felt and sounded like something broke underneath. Limped to a parking area until tow truck got there. He had me put it in reverse and the sound was even worse. Any ideas what it might be? Thanks
If it's like my 2003 Tahoe with 307,000 miles on it that started doing that recently, a remanufactured transmission from GM might be in order. Why try to fix one with that many miles on it I figured.

I have an '02 Tahoe Z71, and at 165k miles had the same issue, which screamed/screetched when put in reverse. My issue was a cracked rear planet carrier. I upgraded to the A/C Delco 5 planet carrier (amongst other things) on the rebuild .

Could be transmission, check your dipstick and see and smell the fluid. Does it smell burnt? Is the fluid bright pink or more of a brick red or even brown to orange color? Does the fluid look like its full of burnt material or metal? Stick some of the fluid on a white piece of paper and hold into light look for shiny particles (metal). Could also be transfer case. There is a well known defect in the transfer case design that causes its pump to wear a small hole on the passenger side rear of the case just about midline. Check fluid level in transfer case. Feel around case all over and see if its chain has chewed a hole through the case. Maybe even do a drain of Tcase fluid and inspect for metal.
