I am trying to confirm what are the normal temperature ranges for the rear differential?
I read on the web 125 up to 200 sound right?
Mentioned anything above 225 is not good

I used a IR difgital temperature reader to check it this morning.

On interstate at 65-70 mph and average flat terrain. Temperature was 118. This was the Yukon only and not towing an enclosed trailer.

Flat grades on interstate
Normal range without towing trailer?
Normal range towing enclosed trailer?

Mountain grades about average 10 to 30 degrees of incline?

Thanks

I got a digital temp IR gauge and ambient temp outside was 57. After driving interstate 70-75 i checked and it read 127.
I replaced the pinion seal only and it still leaked. I ordered new gm yolk kit with seal, crush washer, and nut. As of now now leaks as i have driven it 100 miles so far. I plan on towing trailer this weekend and will check temps.
I appreciate the information keeping it under 250 range. I assume the casing reading example being 125, that the internal fluid would be 25 degrees warmer?

Thanks

I had read that a member had a seal leak and after two attempts they replaced the yolk and it fixed the leak issue
Anything under 250 is fine. If you're measuring from the casing, call it 225 to account for temperature gradients.

118 is... Fine...? There's more of a high limit than there is a low one (within reason)
I got a call from the shop today on my 05 silverado 4wd 5.3L they are not able to do the front end alignment as the eccentric bolt is frozen. Any ideas other than replacing the upper ball joint /mount to get it unfrozen?

Thanks

Those eccentrics if original hsve to be soaked with penetrating oil every day for a week before you intend to work on the alignment. Even then it may require a torch to get the to break free. My Denali eccentrics were so frozen up that i had to take a cutting torch to them and replace them. They are cheap enough luckily.

I'm not sure how accurate 25 degrees is. I'm considering it more as a safety margin than a hard and fast rule

Have an impact wrench? It'll either break free or break off lol.

If you get it free, put it back together with a small dab of antiseize

I will soak bolts first in kroil oil. Then use impact gun and remove. I think shop quoted $1,024 labor and parts for two upper moog control arms.
