I have a 2003 GMC Yukon 5.3 4x4 that sometimes doesn't start. Put the key in turn it over and nothing. No crank. Try it a couple times and wait a couple minutes and then it starts up just fine. It might do this once a month or 4 times a week. I have been away and my wife is driving it, and I'm hoping it doesn't leave her stranded somewhere. I'm trying to figure it out, before we have someone replace a host of items.

When it does not start, try moving the gear shift selector to neutral instead of park, then try to start. There is a sensor module that detects the transmission gear status. This device is mechanically moved every time the gear selector is moved. It is prone to failure. The sensor name escapes me, used to be called neutral safety switch.

Ignition switch (not cylinder where the key goes), start relay, starter motor and solenoid are all possible reasons. Malfunctioning security system is also an unlikely cause. I'm guessing either starter or ignition switch.

Thanks I will have her try this when it happens again. Which could be tomorrow or next month.
