looking at the receipt, it looks like it was 5 hours charged of labor....totaling $400 labor, but that was also for differential service front & rear. hopefully this is your problem too. it's sooooo nice to get in the truck & drive without hearing that noise, lol. now i just have to figure out what this light knocking noise is ( i think it's something like a piece of plastic flapping around b/c it's loose.

I just bought this to try to figure out where my noise is comming from

I replaced the front diff with a reman unit because I thought the pinion bearing was going, it had begun to leak and always had a whine at light throttle and coast at 55. It developed a hight pitch siren sound decelerating under 30 so I switched it out...all the noise is still there. The chevy dealer said its the rear pinion bearing and will re-bearing the rear for $1800...not. I need to make sure it's not the transfer case. It has the Borg Warner 2 speed used in Hummers and Tahoes with AWD Stabilitrac. If its the rear I may just put a reman rear in it too I need backing plates and Powertrain Products unit comes with new for $1299
P.S. I kept the old front diff and paid the $350 core charge, it's good, just need a pinion seal it only has 60,000 on it

I am on the same boat as you. I had my front differential swapped out with a re-manufactured one, but the sound is still there. It has to be coming from the front axle because you can feel it in the steering wheel. I will have to go back to my mechanic to get things swapped out under warranty because this noise HAS to go.

Post back on your findings when you get the answers you're looking for.

I need to wait for all six... rear axel bearings(2), rear pinion bearing, transfer case output shafts(2) & front pinion bearing.
I have a recent decel whine 30mph to stop(3000mi), a light throttle and coast 40-50 whirr for the past 50,000 mi. Quiet at 70 mph.

i got all of my things taken care of, but i just noticed a slight noise when i let off the gas (around 30-40 mph. goes away once i touch the gas pedal. he said both carrier bearings & both pinion bearings were replaced. definitely made a difference from the previous noise, but this one is new & no where near as bad. he said there was nothing else that he could see that would be any problem when he had everything apart. my wallet is tapped out right now, so i guess it will have to wait.
