It's your money, do with it what you want but I have never heard of anyone making the trade off you mention above when it comes to converter clutches...Are you saying the "lighter" clutch somehow provides measurable gains over a thicker (and vastly superior) clutch? Or am I misunderstanding?

Billet covers arent needed unless high performance or frequent HD towing/hauling.

I was just assuming the use of lighter more modern materials were beneficial over the traditional paper style. Though it is thinner being a superior fabric would be better/stronger than traditional paper style clutches.

I will be towing more frequently that was the reasoning for the billet cover. I think that's what ended my current converter because I did a lot more towing at the end of the year than I typically would have.

Yea if you're going to be regularly towing heavy loads, I'd spring for the billet cover on your TC.

Several here have used Florida Torque Converters and have had good luck w/them.

All of my converters are built locally by my machinist/torque converter builder.

Well, here it is.

Now, can anyone give me some tips and tricks on installing it? Please :)
Make sure (triple check) that the converter gets seated all the way in. The common myth is that it's supposed to be "3 clunks" to get there. I don't believe that's always the case, depending on spline alignment and engagement.

I like to take a straightedge and place it across the transmission bell housing, then measure in a few spots to the converter pads. Not sure what that dimension should be, but you can find that online I'm sure.

Add some ATF to the converter before installing it, of course.
