Power flush is what shady mechanics do in order to get transmission work down the line. It does use a machine and it’s what everybody recommends to not do. Hopefully you’ll be fine but if your trans goes out in a few months you’ll know why. And of course it leaves no proof so you can’t make them rebuild it. Plenty of people have no problems and since it was done at low mileage you’re probably ok. Higher mileage is where it seems to cause most issues. It kind of pisses me off they do that instead of dropping the pan and changing the filter which is more work.
Maybe that’s why they “never change the filter”. Next time this comes up I’m going to go to a real trans shop it sounds like. The whole reason I’m doing this is to prevent the need for a new trans down the line not cause premature wear :rofl:

When you say flush what exactly did they do? And yes the pan needs to be dropped and the filter changed as well as replacing as much fluid as possible but never use a machine to flush it with.

A flush and a filter change are two completely different services and they can't overlap because the transmission has to be full after each one. It is usually a tough sell to do both at once. I've probably only ever done it a couple of times. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a machine to flush the fluid. If the transmission is going to break because of a flush, it was already going to break. Most transmission flush machines use the transmission pump to do the flush and the machine pumps out new fluid into the transmission at the same rate the old fluid is coming out (whether that is by an actual pump or a bladder system). Additives are what I don't like but some use them and some don't. The "we never do filters" is probably just because they don't try and sell filters. From a business standpoint the flush makes more sense because the flush can be done in quick service and the filter would need to be done by a main shop tech and do to a filter service the exhaust has to come down on a 6L to get the pan out which is more labor to charge and that risks breaking bolts.

So I went and got my trans flushed as part of routine maintenance. Burb has just over 48k miles on it now. I asked to have the filter changed, too, but they said “they never change the filters”. At my current mileage I’m not that worried about it but will be when I’m closer to 100k.

Does this sound odd to anyone else? May have to go to a real trans shop in 5-6 years when I do this again to make sure everything is getting maintenanced properly. Trying to avoid paying 3k for a new trans later on down the road lol

Always change the filter. IMO its more important to do it early, rather than later. Get all the break-in trash thats caught in the filter. They were just being lazy.

Yep, my trans builder won’t even warranty the thing unless the filter is swapped out at 10k for that exact reason. That dealer just wanted the easy money.

New brakes and hubs. Trying out these AC DELCO units off Rock Auto. They’re in the “Heavy Duty” section. I usually get the Power Stop kit and am happy with them but just wanted to try something a little different. Hubs are OEM AC DELCO. Next up are front and rear sway bars (rear finally shipped today) and installing my Spohn panhard bar.

Interested to see what you think of those rotors. I considered them as well. Those are the “extreme service”, right? (Looks like they call them “specialty performance” on Amazon..

Any issues braking the hub out of the knuckle? I had a **** of a time doing my last one.

Being a two wheel drive without the CV axle it was actually super easy. Once I got the 3 bolts out the hub essentially just fell out lol MUCH easier than it ever was on my 07 :)

That’s correct. I’ll be interested to see how they do, too. I’ll try and remember to do a review on them after a few weeks of driving on them.
