Hello all,

I just purchased a 2009 GMC Yukon hybrid. As you know they do not all come with a spare tire. I am wanting to add one. As I was looking under the rear of the vehicle I noticed that the tube is already there that goes through the metal part of the bumper, they just did not make the access hole in the bumper cover. If I order the access hole cover (2"x2") for a regular 07-14 Yukon bumper and have a square hole drilled will that cover snap into it?

Thank you,

No you will need to do some bondo and plastic welding work. You need to cut a 6" x 6" panel off a bumper with one and mold that to your bumper.

Yes, booth the regular Tahoe/Yukon bumper and the Escalade/Denali bumper are a straight swap, I did it on my 09 with the latter and added the spare tire kit:

the only modification you have to do is cut a slice at the top of the new bumper where it meets the quarter panel:

One last thing to keep in mind is that there were two version of the spare tire kit, one (more expensive) with the resonator relocation kit, and one (cheaper) without. I had already deleted my resonator with this exhaust tip http://store.hybridcars.com/Exhaust-Tip-Chevy-Tahoe-GMC-Yukon-p/20111.htm so I could get the cheaper kit. if you want to keep the resonator then obviously you have to get the more expensive kit of the two. I think I have the two different part numbers somewhere if you need them. Also keep in mind both kit come without a tire, but I simply went to a used tire store and picked up an almost new one installed/balanced for $50.

Hope that helps.

He's talking about just buying the little access cover panel, not the whole bumper.

That's crazy talk.

yeah. for the price of the custom work (like I posted in the 2nd post) you could get a used bumper with it already there.

Thank you for your replies, greatly appreciated. I wonder if there is a way to mount a spare and possibly make a shorter lowering bar (instead of inserting the bar through the bumper) so you have to get under the back bumper and lower it with a ratchet handle attached to it.
