If not in your community, then isn't there another place outside of your community and how far away. I assume that since you say your small community, that the dealer is also not there?

It was $190 for the flush and right at $900 for the repair. Pump quote was over $400. Not sure what the shop rate is evidently it varies from gm dealer to gm dealer?

They agreed to match the price of another dealer which quoted $888 so they're getting the job. I've really got to find an independent jobber but our small community doesn't have much to offer. We used to have several shops run by guys I knew that worked on cars seems today nobody wants to work with their hands.

The dealership is in a neighboring slightly larger community it's where I purchased the vehicle.

At least take comfort that ASE certified mechanics who are familiar with your vehicle are working on it. That's what comforts and justifies it when I fork over those Benjamins!

I'm surrounded by cows and corn fields N. central Indiana. We used to have a K Mart. haha
So…..I’ve been through northern Indiana. Not a lot going on there, that’s for sure. You’re probably an hour from either Ft Wayne, South Bend, Lafayette or Indianapolis I bet.

You are spot on: I'm right at an hour from all those places. I'm 30 minutes north of Kokomo where the Delco plant was once located.

The old plants' parking lots are now full of trucks waiting for parts to complete assembly. Vehicles waiting for chips that were once produced there.

One of those old chip plants was making ventilators and when they finished, went back to making chips because of the Chicom chip shortage. "Offshoring" and "Outsourcing" was one of the dumbest business and national security decisions this country ever made.

From pictures I saw of the ventilator production area it looked to be part of the engineering building south of Southway Blvd but I could be wrong. This building was linked to Fab 3 by a suspended walkway that has been removed. Fab 3 was the newest clean room we had it was completed in the early '90s. It's all mothballed as far as I know.

I cried a little so they knocked it down I'm starting to make peace with it.

Trying to set a repair cost limit before replacing the vehicle but look to trade within 2 years regardless.
I wouldn't let a water pump make my decision to toss a vehicle or not. I likely would not take a vehicle in for a water pump R&R to a dealership either just for the reason you ran into. Cost. I did my water pump R&R just this past December in my driveway. Only "special" tool I needed was a large crescent wrench to remove the fan clutch. New water pump with fan clutch (came as one complete kit) was around $275.

Im just north of Terre Haute and their are a bazillion GM dealerships and private shops to choose from if ever needed. There's also wheat, corn and soybean fields everywhere. Heck my local Walmart carries reloading supplies and gun powder in the sporting goods area. Cracks me up when people from northeastern U.S. somehow believe the midwest is nothing but cornfields. Like we are in a different part of the world or something.

Bought our 2008 Denali XL from the GM dealer in Clinton, IN. I think it’s Pilson now.
