Wow, I did my first with a hair under 2000k on the ODO and I thought that was pushing it. I used Amsoil 0-20 and a wix filter. 8 quarts. Plus I added Liqi Moly Motor Protect, same stuff I put in my merc. That was recommended by the AMG tech at the dealer. Tlang is spot on with the miles thing. the first 1000 -2000 miles at most for an oil change. When I had more than one hotrod motor built all recommended 250-500 miles at the most. Heck one guy changed the stuff at 100 miles but that was a big cam motor with 500 hp, way to expensive to second guess.

I don't know about this guys...back in the old days sure...but the zinc content (and other slippery d*ck additives the manufactures run on initial build lubes is quite amazing stuff now adays...
The crap is really expensive, really good and is designed to last a really long time...
Gone are the manufacturing days were there was so much variance and possible build schlagg in motors when built that they would quite literally sand themselves to become matching parts etc...
Today stuff fits together like a cnc'd part... Soooooo....
Anyhoo... I say all this and on my land speed car, I changed the break in oil for more break in oil about 15 minutes after start up...... Ended up ripping the motor apart after first dyno pull to put a different spec crank in...
Oil and filter were crystal clean except for carbon...
Black stone has been done on a crap load of new motors and it really just leads to mass motor builds are getting so much better, the old 500-1000 mile change to get rid of all the break in material isn't necessary...
However, if you are the 5% where there are the extra shavings, a quick oil
Change with a couple squirts of engine build lube in it is great added insurance!!!
So maybe after this long type...maybe a 500-1000 mile change is just damn good insurance... But throwing away really good expensive oil...
