it does sound like a lot. if he spent some time here it could have saved him a lot. probably just needed a afm delete cam swap and a upgraded torque converter to get what he wanted

Seems kinda high.

I had the motor in my 2008 Suburban replaced by a reputable shop (read: expensive) a few years ago. Stupid oil pickup o-ring got me. GM remanufactured (3/36/100 warranty) long block was $3950, replaced all the cooler lines and high-pressure lines for the hyrdroboost, did a few other small things and the total bill was $7700.

Installing a reman 6L80/90 shouldn't be more than another $6k-$7k, so that's at most $15k.

Agreed, but listed in that total was 4 new tires as well. And I would wager a bunch of other refresh items like the radiator, maybe the transfer case and such. I can see the total going up to $18K for someone else to do the job the way I would want it done if it were mine and I was trying to bring it back to as close to new as I could.

$18k is a lot but what has to be considered is the labor rate of the shop and the additional upgrades done for other components that were removed and not reinstalled, but had a new part installed. Fluids and additional work done for maintenance for rest of drivetrain components. On the breakdown of the $18k bill, what was the labor rate and the total hours for the job?

Ever since they switched from global architecture A to B, no modules on these trucks are cross compatible after 2015 without some major software hacking.

I’m following this upgrade from 4/6 Speed to 8/10 speed trans carefully.

Wheel bearings were replaced, too. Shop and parts rates have gone up drastically in the past few years.
