Hi everyone. Once again I am updating on my ongoing project lol. So, I finally replaced the trasnfer case. It wasn't too difficult, i found that the hardest part was putting the replacement up and bolting it in place. It's kind of heavy if you're rolling on the ground. Luckily I had an extra set of hands for that. Here is the funny part, well it's kind of sad at this point. After I finished the job, I lowered the jack and tried to start the truck and test it out. Guess what, as I crank the engine....gasoline started pissing all over the place...wtf? But the truck was running fine before, started right up. So now I gotta drop the freakin tank to see if maybe one of the nylon/plastic lines that connect to the fuel pump cracked or maybe the fitting disconnected? who the hell knows, I'm just a little pissed off at the moment. I replaced the fuel pump earlier so I hate to drop the tank AGAIN.

I just tried pushing that shit in neutral and it's doing the same clicking...so looks like I'm f**ked, and put the transfer case in there for nothing. I've been told it might be some parking pole spring that may have broke it's somewhere in the transmission pan? I don't know this is starting to totally piss me off, and if it's a bad transmission then I'm doomed. What do you guys think? I'll be taking off the transmission oil pan tomorrow to check if i can see anything wrong. Is that worth doing? Do I have a more serious problem?

Well... I solved the fuel leak...luckily when I dropped the tank it was only a disconnected line. So I popped it back in and it started up fine. Phewww if only all problems were like that. Still I am pissed with that grinding...and don't know wtf the problem is, but if it's the transmission I won't be able to fix that shit on my own. Anyway, I will try to drop the transmission oil pan on a nice day....today is raining and I'm feeling hella sleepy. Your input is always appreciated.Later guys.

I just had my T Case rebuilt, it was making a terrible noise. took to a friend tranny's shop and they did a rebuild on it in 4 hours, cost to me 500.00 bucks, well spent.
just make sure that case you bought isn't bad also... thats why I chose to do a rebuild and now I know its fixed and ready for the next 100,000 miles.

Do not remove the bolts on the TRANSMISSION or any crossover. Once the drive shafts are out, the transfer case easily can slide between the two crossovers. Once popped off, simply rotate the tail shaft up and the body of the T-case down between the two crossovers.

Now, for my question..... I put a new transmission in my 96 Tahoe last night. Everything on it worked great but I had lost 3&4. Fixed, put it back in, and now, when I connect my battery, the T-case is clicking and thumping like its electric motor is trying to put it into 4-low. The dash light is flashing 4-low, and it goes forward and backward, but won't switch out of 4-low. WTF? It was working just fine when I drove it onto the ramps two days ago. Anyone have any experience with this? I tried rocking the truck while she was attempting to engage. Nothing. I drove it forward and backward, still nothing. It stop clicking when driving, but in park, or even with the battery connected, the T-case clicks and clicks like it's attempting to lock into a position. Any suggestions? Beat the electric motor with a hammer maybe? LOL. I'm just frustrated. Transmission out, rebuilt, and put back in within a two day window, and now this! It almost sounds like the T-case is receiving the wrong electrical signal. Like it's got a power lead going off that it shouldn't. Why would it do it as soon as the battery was connected? Write me back, email.... something. I'm rather annoyed. Last time I dropped a transmission in a Tahoe we had no problems.

unknown at this time.
Do this without pulling fuses. Also just to verify it is stuck in 4lo and will not come out is this correct? Every one seem to have 4wd issues lately.

Perform this operation and report back please:

Displaying Diagnostic Trouble Codes

1. Install jumper wire between DLC terminal 13 and ground, Fig. 25 . The DLC is located under the lefthand side of the instrument panel, right of the steering column.
2. Turn ignition switch to On position.
3. Wait three seconds, then observe transfer case switch status lamps.

Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes
The transfer case status lamps will flash to indicate the DTC's stored in memory. If only one DTC is stored in memory, that DTC flashes repeatedly with a three second delay between flash sequences. If more than one DTC is stored in memory, the first DTC flashes once, then the next code is flashed. This sequence continues to flash until the jumper wire is disconnected.

my first time witha t case was last week on a 99 tahoe {still having issues with it too} but yes the front crossmember is the one to move. i just raised the trany a bit and slid the cross member foward enough to get the tcase out and back in wasnt to bad really i was alone i tried using a jack first but ended up rolling it off the jack on to my chest then kinda pushed it on to my thighs and used me leggs to get it up in there. would have been nice if that would have been the problem. problem at this post. http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21262#post252319

I don't know why you couldn't unbolt the crossmember. When I swapped my T-case out, had that crossmember not been riveted, I would have pulled it too. If you really had to(you shouldn't though) you could chisel off the rivets and then replace them with bolts. Kinda like doing ball joints.
