Hi all, I'm new here but desperately need help. I have a 2000 Tahoe 5.3L around 225k. I was having a problem turning left at slow speeds or at idle. I checked my front end and notice some stuff needed changing. I replaced inner and outer tie rods, both sides, idler arm, pitman arm and both sway bar ends. Still no change to turning left. The power steering pump would whine a bit so I figured that could be it. Yesterday I changed the pump, kept the same reservoir. It was late last night so this morning I went to check it out and now I can not turn at all. If o jack it up it goes no prob. But under load will not budge. Even at a roll it won't turn. This is our only vehicle and I need it fixed. Could the pump I bought be a bad pump from the store?

Did you perform the bleed procedure. There usually is an instructional sheet with the replacement pump.
Yea, I did the bleed steps. I pulled it back out and went and got a whole unit with the reservoir attached. So we'll see how it goes in a few.

Ok I replaced the pump assembly and it works great. Only problem is my original one still. At low speed or at a stop turning left is extremely hard. Like I have no power steering. I almost took out a fire hydrant yesterday pulling up my street. Any ideas? I replaced idler arm and bracket, pitman arm, inner and outer tie rods both sides, sway bar end links, both hubs and bearings. Hubs went bad first, then noticed the rest of the parts were bad too so I replaced those front end steering components and nothing has helped.

Sounds like your steering gearbox went bad. Can you turn right perfectly fine?

Yea to the right gives no issues at all. The PS pump whines a bit too turning to the left right before and during it giving me an issue

I remember reading something about replacement aftermarket pumps for late 90’s early 2000’s being bad out of the box ... but maybe you swapped parts and put them in backwards by accident ....it happens

The first pump I bought was bad took it out and got one that allows me to drive the truck. IDK y turning to the left at slow speeds or idle doesn't work. It's not a constant thing outta 5 left turns maybe 2-3 times it happens. And the rest of the parts as far as I've experienced only go one way.

Look at the adjustment screw on steering box. It a bolt with a lock nut at its base. Make sure it has not come loose.
