Does a 2001 5.3 with throttle cable require a idle engine relearn after taking off throttle body? Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I had an 02 LT and had the throttle body off, with the same throttle cable, and had no problems. Why did you take the throttle body off?

Engine was dieing at idle. Replaced maf and idle air control valve. Still had trouble so took off throttle body and fully cleaned it. Solved the problem but engine light stays on saying high idle P0507. Took throttle body back off and replaced gasket and touched up with gasket sealer. Worked for half a day, now engine light is back on.

where did you source the iac? that is most likely the problem, I always recommend just replacing the throttle body. the only iac that works properly is a oem one and at the time I was working on mine they didn't sell a oem separately. I did have have success before getting one out of the junkyard that was a identical match.

I have been wondering about this. If the iac is the problem. Got from Auto parts store. Ok, so sounds like I am going to look around for an oem iac

if you can find a decent looking used one just clean it up with some spray cleaner real good and when you take the iac off the throttle body clean inside the hole with a rag also before you install the replacement, if all goes well it should idle back to normal very quickly.

Like @Doubeleive said, if you get one of the two I looked up at RA before you install the new clean inside the hole with a rag but I used to take a new Scotch Brite pad and kind of scrub in there where the soot/carbon builds up and blow it all out and clean with spray cleaner again. That little pintle hole can have a build up that does not allow the IAC to clear properly. The only throttle body I could find was the reman unit from Cardone but was out of stock at the time..

Yes, I’m really kicking myself now for throwing away the old one. Was probably nothing wrong with it
