Thanks for the pic and description
Since it’s winter now I might just cut off the belt and see if the noise goes away. Worse case buy a new belt and install in spring. Or does the belt drive other components
you can leave it off if you really want to, it does help with defrosting the front window because it dehumidifies, but that's it, other than making you cool.
you don't have to cut off the belt to check the noise you can just take the belt off the tensioner. the tensioner has a square 3/8" slot and you just stick a ratchet drive in there and give it a twist to release the belt. it could be just the tensioner and that just takes 2 15MM bolts and it's off, all you have to do to get to it is remove the plastic guard panel under the bottom of the front grill/bumper that's also 15MM

I have an 01 XL with the 5.3 and my a/c tensioner went bad last year. I have a buddy with an 01 Suburban very similar to my Yukon, and his went bad 3 weeks before mine. It's a fairly cheap and easy repair if you're mechanically inclined.

Seems like everything that goes bad on my friend's truck happens to mine a few weeks later, so I may be due for a radiator soon...
