hey all,

So finally got the transmission in and all the broken things fixed. Now she won’t crank. I got it to start by jumping the starter and she started up instantly...but she won’t crank with the key.

I put a new neutral safety switch in so I assume that is either bad or out of adjustment. The gear indicator display is, however correct, the only problem is that there is sometimes a delay between park and neutral.

Do I have this right - to adjust the safety switch I have to loosen the two bolts and pivot the back side while someone cranks with the key? Before I do that can I just check that it is a switch problem? Can I jump power to the wire that goes to the starter relay and if I can then crank I would know it’s a sensor problem?

i know the 96-99 had some adjustment to them i dont know about your year. ill also ask did you replace it with an acdelco unit or cheap aftermarket. i did my 97 with a cheap aftermarket and it was basically showing signs of a bad switch immediately.

2003 what? Please give details. You also said you replaced the neutral safety switch. Will it start/crank over in any gear selection besides Park? How about the ignition switch?

Look at this video and start at 2:20 in to see adjustment procedure:

It's an 03 Tahoe Z71 5.3 4x4.

Yes it is a new switch, not it is not AC delco. Got what I could get locally. The gear shift indicator works fine, other than there is sometimes a delay between when I go between R and P. It won't crank in any gear at all. I can get it to crank and run by jumping the the starter relay. Problem is between key switch and starter relay...all it can really be is a fuse, the key switch or the nuetral safety switch.

Did you try the adjusting process in the video? You asked for the "how do I do it" and I supplied a video for you but now no info back about whether you tried it or not.

Well first off, calm down. Second, I’d seen that video before and all had asked was for verification if I had it right. Third...things get done when they do.

As for the switch, I removed the big connector and tried in every position to get it to crank. No dice. Then. I noticed that the green wire from the big connector has pulled out of the clip. That wire is, apparently, one of the wires needed to start. I tried jumping the wire but no dice. So now I will have to get that wire back in the clip before trying again.
