This is totally not okay, oil pressure was a little low this morning until it got warm, probably down to 15psi but no clatter or ticking. This is with 5w30 and 1qt of Lucas oil Stabil, makes me kinda want to do an OP or O ring if I'm gonna have the motor apart for a week.
Hell yeah I’d do both.

So I should drop to a thinner oil which is actually what I'd been considering since the Lucas is so thiccc. I plan to do a Blackstone sample in 2k when its oil change time and see what they say my viscosity is. Might drop to a 0w30.

I truly don't think I need a new oil pump or pickup tube O ring I think the oil is probably overly thick and the addition of the Cold Case oil cooler which is probably significantly bigger than the factory one just increased the resistance.

vr1 20w-50 lol but it runs like 70-95psi everythings a little looser than normal

ctsv i just run 5w30 mobil 1 syn/wix filter ...gm says run 0w-40 if you do "track days"
theres sposed to be a special type ESP developed for corvettes (lt4).. may give it a try next oil change
Buddy with the zl1 switched to that 0-40. So far, no issues

Well, I found that Felpro has .041 gaskets that can be here in a week

You don't say! lol
I might could've gotten away with .041" but I wussed out and went with .045". At that time, I didn't know Fel-Pro was an option. Dropped the coin on the Cometics. If I couldn't save the scratch, the least I could do is pass what I learned after the fact.

The next questions are how do I measure piston height and chamber volume easily?

I used a dial indicator and magnetic mount from Hazard Frought. It's really not all that involved. There are plenty of YT vids. Basically, you get the piston flush with the deck, set the DI on it and zero it out then raise the piston to find the maximum. You measure from different points and with the piston rocked both ways, averaging the two figures. Keep a notebook handy. Don't be surprised if the four corner cylinders show shorter heights (less out the hole) than the four center ones. Determine your HG thickness based on the highest piston height.

I'd take the heads to a shop to measure the volume. It's kinda tedious and requires somewhat specialized equipment, so I'd let a shop do it. It shouldn't be much in labor charges- at least, not enough to bother homebrewed methods.

Unless it's frozen and the pump can't move it, your oil pressure should be higher when cold.

Straight 15W-40 was unnecessarily thick for my liking and I wanted more than 5W-40, so I mix it 50/50 for 10W-40 since that weight doesn't exist in Rotella T6. Blackstone said my last sample's viscosity was within the range of 10W-40.
